Yes, Graham. I see you over there, about to speak. 🙂 I realize this isn’t technically an author interview. But I don’t have a logo for “character interview” so that one’s just gonna have to do for now.
Which brings me to the point in my post where I should make some introductions.
I’m so excited to have the privilege of chatting today with Graham and Lucy from Jill Lynn’s latest novel Her Texas Family.
Moving to a small Texas town, Lucy Grayson is looking to live life on her own terms. When she agrees to take a job in Doctor Graham Redmond’s office, the two instantly clash.
The same can’t be said for the widower’s daughter. They quickly form a bond when Lucy begins teaching the little girl to dance. Graham soon realizes how good Lucy is for his daughter—and for him.
Yet his late wife’s parents don’t agree. Their ultimatum to choose between them or Lucy fills Graham with despair. He can’t let his daughter lose her grandparents…but he also can’t lose the woman who could complete their family.
Hi, Graham & Lucy! Welcome to my corner of the world! I start my authors out with a “fast four”… so why don’t we start there too?
Lucy: I’d choose an apple over an orange. But why isn’t chocolate an option?
Carrie: Chocolate is always an option.
Lucy: Summer in Colorado. Winter in Texas. I like it warm, but not so hot that my skin feels like it’s going to melt off my body.
Lucy & Graham: Dogs. (Hey, we agree on something!)
Lucy: We should get a dog! A cute puppy for Mattie to play with.
Graham: Do you have any idea how much of a mess a puppy would make? And all of the training it would require? And then Mattie would never want to take care of it so the responsibility would fall to me.
***Meanwhile Lucy’s already headed off to the pound to rescue a puppy***
Zuzu loves Lucy!
Graham: Coffee. Definitely coffee. Though only a cup or two a day. Anything more than that isn’t good for you.
Lucy: Diet Coke. Because it’s a magical liquid that makes everything better.
Carrie: ***high fives Lucy while sipping from my McDonalds diet coke in a foam cup with extra ice***
Around here, I like to say that reading is my superpower. What is YOUR superpower?
Lucy: Making life fun.
Graham: Making sure no one gets hurt.
Back to dogs again for a moment. If you were a dog, what breed of dog would you be?
Lucy: Golden retriever. They’re the happiest, go-luckiest dogs.
Graham: Anything that doesn’t shed.
Carrie: Y’all make me smile.
Even fictional characters can read, right? What book/books are you reading right now?
Graham: I just finished a book called Brain Maker: The Power of Gut Microbes to Heal and Protect Your Brain-for Life.
Lucy: I’m in the middle of an 80’s movie marathon so I don’t really have time for reading right now.
Carrie: I guess opposites really do attract … LOL!
I’m sure you’ve heard the quote “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” So. Tell me y’all’s first impression of each other.
Lucy: The first time I saw Graham he was across the room. I definitely thought he was super cute and so was Mattie. But then when I actually met him? Whoohee, he made me mad. Looked at me like I was crazy and he was better than me or something. Come to find out, he did sort of think I was crazy.
Graham: No, I didn’t.
*She gives him a look.*
Okay, I did. The first time I noticed Lucy she hit me in the head with one of her shoes. I thought she was flighty, and that wasn’t just because she was up a tree at the time.
Now tell me about your author Jill. What is she like as a writer? Did she listen to your suggestions or keep to her outline?
Lucy: I’ll take this question. Jill is extremely hard to keep in line. She writes one thing in her brainstorming, and then she lets us do all kinds of other things! I was a wild character, and I kind of did whatever I wanted. She finally just gave up and let me.
Carrie: Lucy, you? Wild? Doing whatever you wanted? I refuse to believe it. 😉
If I could talk to Jill for a moment… What do you hope that people take away from Graham & Lucy’s story?
Jill: I hope people enjoy it. I hope they laugh and smile and maybe even tear up. That it’s filled with the kind of emotion that makes them remember it after they’re done reading.
Carrie: I did all of the above 🙂 Stay tuned for my full review!
Jill, Graham, and Lucy – THANK YOU so much for humoring my quirky questions! It’s been a delight talking with the three of you today 🙂
Jill, what’s coming up next for you?
Jill: I am working on a story that features Hunter (he makes a small cameo in Her Texas Family) and Rachel Maddox (from Falling for Texas.)
Thanks so much for having me, Carrie! This was a blast. 🙂
