Sunday Book Club: Fangirling

August 28, 2016 Sunday Book Club 31

sunday book club blog

In case you’re just now following me or haven’t been paying attention (lol), I spent the last week in Nashville at the first ever Christian Fiction Readers Retreat (with 35 of my fave authors) and then hanging out at the Omni Hotel where the American Christian Fiction Writers Conference was taking place. Needless to say, I did a LOT of fangirling over the past few days.

Like when BECKY WADE walked up to my Author Registration Table in the middle of my spiel to some other authors I’d already fangirled over… and I lost all ability to form words. Everything I was saying? Gone. My brain? Blank. LOL.

Or when I gave KATE BRESLIN a ride … and then sat next to her on the couch in my jammies. Surreal.

Or when JEN TURANO entered the lobby of the Omni Hotel and I nearly shoved my friend Rachael (of Rachael’s Reads) off the couch in my excitement.

And so many other moments that I’m treasuring close to my heart – lunches and dinners and authors who plopped down next to me in the swanky lobby just to chat.

My heart is so full. Memories I will cherish forever. Friends I will keep just as long.

Okay, now it’s your turn. Which authors do you fangirl over the most?

I fangirled with Becky Wade at CFRR too! To meet Jen Turano would have been the best!

    • Carrie

Jen is super fun!! We kinda accosted her … right after she arrived … but then she came back down to hang out with us. More than once. So we must have scared her away too badly LOL

    • Carrie

YES!!! You are in the “moments I’m cherishing” category. Next time, I want to do lunch with you!

Whimper. I’m trying to be brave about all this. Really I am. I’d have been the crazed woman in the corner of the lobby screaming herself hoarse every time she spotted an author so it’s just as well I didn’t attend. I’d never be able to keep my cool. Not. Ever.

I enjoyed watching the festivities last night and did quite a bit of fangirling in the privacy of my own home. It’s safer for everyone that way. Bwahahahaha!

    • Carrie

Ummm… Let’s just say that my voice is pretty much gone lol.

  3. Lori Parrish

Kav I completely agree with you! I wish I could’ve been there also! I think I would’ve been in shock had I got to meet Laura Feagan Frantz and Carrie Fancett Pagels, Laurie Alice Eakes and Janice Hanna Thompson I seen she was there. I definitely would’ve loved to meet Sharlene Bakery McClaren! She lives in my favorite spot ever!!
I enjoyed watching Carrie Booth Schmidt having a good time! It looked she died and gone to heaven as I would have

    • Carrie

I’m pretty sure I did die and go to heaven, Lori… and I’m still so tired that I may still be there 😉

    • Carrie

hahahahahaha! You are too sweet, Elaine! And I didn’t get a picture with YOU!! No fair!

    • Bonnie Roof

Aww, such a sweet comment, Elaine – thank you!! I was so honored to meet you, however, as with Carrie – don’t think I have a pic with you either. Will have to rectify that ASAP – hope to see you again in the not-too-distant future!! Hugs!!

My biggest fangirl moments have come the 4 times I have met Liz Curtis Higgs. Yes, it never gets old! I loved following your adventures in Nashville. I hope to join you one day. The first interview I ever did for my blog was with Cynthia Ruchti at the ICRS in Atlanta years ago. She set the bar for gracious authors with country-come-to-town bloggers. LOL. Love her!

    • Bonnie Roof

Beckie, Liz’s books were my introduction to Christian Fiction – she is “the real deal” and such a joy to know!! We both live in the Louisville area, I’ve had the privilege to hear her speak numerous times over the years.

  5. Connie Scruggs

You have me roflol-ing! I can just picture it. I got to go to Black Dawg Salvage a while back and when Mike Whiteside came out of the office, I was speechless and gawking. (If you haven’t watched Salvage Dawgs, you need to binge watch it).
I wish I had been able to attend, but maybe next time. Then I will be gawking at Kate Breslin, Jen Turano, Julie Lessman, Julie Klassen Kim Vogel Sawyer and probably more. Y’all may have to get the men in white jackets to haul me away!

    • Carrie

LOL LOL well if they do they’ll probably have to haul me away too 😉

Carrie – this past week was probably one of the best weeks in my life, meeting and spending time with so many wonderful Christian Fiction authors is a truly beautiful and indescribable experience – I love them all!! My heart is full also – memories full of emotion and wonderful new friends, both authors and readers!!

    • Winnie Thomas

Bonnie, you, Carrie and Annie deserve soooo many accolades for bringing this dream of yours to life! All the pictures and posts and excitement are so fun to see. What a tribute to all your work and planning! You’re amazing! Thanks so much for being a friend to me and so many others! Hugs!!

  7. carylkane

One must have SUPERPOWERS to be in the same area of all those INCREDIBLE authors/bloggers and readers! I am in AWE!!!! Thank you for sharing the experience via photos with those of us who were unable to attend. ((((HUGS)))))

  8. Winnie Thomas

There are so many authors in your pics that I’d love to meet. They all seem so sweet and gracious, and I love their books so much. But I’d be fangirling over Carrie, Bonnie and Annie and so many other of my sweet, awesome reader/blogger/etc. friends I’ve “met” on Facebook, too. I’d love to meet them in person and give them a hug for brightening my days! Thanks you all!! You’re the best!

    • Carrie

oh Winnie… my BFFF …. you brighten MY day all the time! Love ya!

      • Winnie Thomas

Love you, too, Carrie! Your retreat was a SMASHING success! I can just see the excitement of everyone in the pictures! Well done, my BFFF! You, Bonnie, and Annie made soooo many people happy! Hugs!!

Girl, the moments keep happening! It was such an awesome event! I didn’t get pics with all the authors or people I met! And so many more I missed. My heart is full right now! So thankful this event happened and hope it’s the 1st of many to come!
