Will money ruin everything?

Nina Warrenton is ready for the next step in her life plan—marriage, but no one has proposed. Taking matters into her hand, she places an ad in the newspaper hoping to entice a willing stranger. But when she begins to fall for the small-town chef, she realizes how much she wants him to love her and not her money.

Dwight Williams needs fast cash to save the family restaurant. When he sees Nina’s monetary offer for a husband, he goes for it. He’s determined to save the legacy his dad left him, but can he let it go to prove his love for her?

Can Nina and Dwight find true love, once money has entered the equation?

Hi Toni! Welcome to the blog! I start everyone out with a “fast four”!

apples or oranges

Toni: Apples! They’re the perfect accessory fruit. Go good with cheese, peanut butter, caramel, chocolate, you name it. 🙂

Carrie: mmmm… and now i’m hungry for apples. As usual. LOL.

winter or summer

Toni: Summer! I’m allergic to the cold. It seeps into my bones and takes me forever to warm back up. Plus, I was born in the summer.

Carrie: I think I’m allergic to the heat….

dogs or cats

Toni: Dogs! Can anything be so adorable?! I used to have a golden retriever named Jake Ryan.

Carrie: Good answer! Zuzu wholeheartedly approves! 😉

coffee or tea

Toni: Tea! I didn’t actually like the taste of coffee—and only iced at that—until last year. But tea I could drink every day, sweet or hot.

Carrie: I still don’t like coffee. Or tea. But I won’t hold it against you lol.

Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower.  If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Toni: Is sound proofing one of them? My family accuses me of being hard of hearing when my face is in a book—reading or writing.

Carrie: Ah yes… book deafness. It’s a thing.

Which books are “on your nightstand”?

Toni: I have 3 on my nightstand. Irene Hannon’s Tangled Webs, Denise Hunter’s Just a Kiss, and The Holy Bible.

Carrie: Excellent mix of reading material 🙂 That reminds me actually of Spurgeon’s quote which I love so much – “Visit many good books but live in the Bible.”

Writing spaces are as diverse as authors and books. Where is your favorite space to write?

Toni: I write on my bed. Perfect place to put my feet up and type away on my laptop.

Carrie: I do a lot of blogging the same way!

In Buying Love, the hero Dwight is a small-town chef trying to save his family restaurant. What is one of your favorite recipes?

Toni: Oh, man, maybe the question should be which one wasn’t my favorite, lol. I think the maple-fried chicken was my favorite. It’s on my Pinterest Inspiration board HERE.

Carrie: YUM!

Describe Nina and Dwight in one sentence each, and tell me who you would cast in their roles if Hollywood wanted to produce Buying Love as a movie!

Toni: Nina wants to control her environment around her but yearns for a friend. Dwight can’t help but try and fix things to make sure his family is taken care of.

If I had to cast their roles, I would chose Nia Long for Nina and Laz Alonso for Dwight.

What do you most want readers to take away from Buying Love?

Toni: There are so many messages, but the biggest take away is that we are part of God’s family. He’s adopted us and given us the body of Christ as fellow family. Never feel alone!

Carrie: Yes. Amen. <3

Again, Toni, thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! J  Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Toni: Thank you so much for having me, Carrie! It’s been fun. J I just finished a rough draft of book 2 in the Maple Run series. Since it’s NaNoWriMo, I’m working to see if I can finish a rough draft of book 3 by the end of the month!

Carrie: Yay!! I can’t wait to read both! 🙂

from the author

Hi, Reader Friends!! I’m so excited to be here at Celebrate Lit for the kick off of my new release, Buying Love. I wrote this book last year for National November Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). In one month, I managed to write a little over 50,000 words. However, that’s not why this book holds a special place in my heart. No, it’s the message in the story.

Nina Warrenton has struggled with being alone in life. Thus, she decides to take matters into her own hand and places an ad for a husband, complete with a monetary offer. What seemed like an intelligent and simplistic way to get a husband, soon proves to have a multitude of complications. Not only that, but Nina has to discover who God is in her life and the body of Christ fits into that.

children-1149671_1920Y’all have you ever felt alone in a room full of people? Or felt isolated? Or maybe you’re an orphan…whatever your background, I hope that this book shows you that God loves you. He loves you so much, He’s adopted you into the body of Christ. So if you’re a believer, we’re family. As a person who always wanted a friend and lots of family, that’s music to my soul. It’s what I wanted Nina to discover and what I hope the readers discover.

Ephesians 1:4-6, “According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the beloved” (KJV).
