DiAnn Mills is one of my fave authors for nail-biting romantic suspense! Her latest series – FBI Task Force – is so good!! (You haven’t seen my reviews here because I’ve reviewed them for RT Book Reviews, but trust me – you’ll love these books!)
DiAnn Mills is a bestselling author who believes her readers should expect an adventure. She combines unforgettable characters with unpredictable plots to create action-packed, suspense-filled novels.
Her titles have appeared on the CBA and ECPA bestseller lists; won two Christy Awards; and been finalists for the RITA, Daphne Du Maurier, Inspirational Readers’ Choice, and Carol award contests. Library Journal presented her with a Best Books 2014: Genre Fiction award in the Christian Fiction category for Firewall.
DiAnn is a founding board member of the American Christian Fiction Writers; a member of Advanced Writers and Speakers Association; International Thriller Writers, and the Faith, Hope, and Love chapter of Romance Writers of America. She is co-director of Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference with social media specialist Edie Melson where she continues her passion of helping other writers be successful. She speaks to various groups and teaches writing workshops around the country.
DiAnn has been termed a coffee snob and roasts her own coffee beans. She’s an avid reader, loves to cook, and believes her grandchildren are the smartest kids in the universe. She and her husband live in sunny Houston, Texas.
Her newest release, Deep Extraction, is the second book in the FBI Task Force series but can stand alone.
A pacemaker should have saved oil and gas magnate Nathan Moore’s life.Instead, it provided his killer with a seemingly perfect means of execution.
A bombing at one of Nathan’s oil rigs days earlier indicates his death could be part of a bigger conspiracy, a web Special Agent Tori Templeton must untangle. But her first order of business is separating the personal from the professional–the victim’s wife, her best friend, is one of the FBI’s prime suspects.
Clearing Sally’s name may be the biggest challenge of her career, but Tori finds an unexpected ally in the newest member of the task force, recently reinstated Deputy US Marshal Cole Jeffers. As Tori and Cole dig deeper into Nathan’s personal and business affairs, they uncover more than they bargained for. And the closer they get to finding the real killer–and to each other–the more intent someone is on silencing them for good.
Hi DiAnn! Welcome to the blog! I start all of my guests out with a fast four:
DiAnn: Apples. I can eat them in a salad, applesauce, pies, muffins, brownies, everything! And they keep the doctor away.
Carrie: I love apples too! And this question always makes me want one lol
DiAnn: Summer because I love to be outside. In Houston, we experience very little cold temperatures, my fav.
Carrie: I am the exact opposite lol.
DiAnn: Dogs because a dog is a woman’s best friend. Loyal and not temperamental.
Carrie: Amen & amen. My dog Zuzu wanted to hold my hand (her version of it anyway) for a good solid hour when I got home from being out of town for a week. Cats do not do that. Which is why dogs are better 😉
DiAnn: I’m a bit of a coffee snob and roast my own beans.
Carrie: Oh wow! I didn’t even know you could do such a thing (clearly I am NOT a coffee snob lol)
Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
DiAnn: Omnilinguism is the ability to understand any form of language. Oh, the research I could do around the world without a language barrier!
Carrie: That would be wonderful to have!
Who is your favorite book character from childhood?
DiAnn: Jo from Little Women. Her independence, love of family, passion for writing, and willingness to work hard to achieve her goals influenced my life then and now.
Carrie: I love Jo! (And just between us, I still think she should have ended up with Laurie.)
Writing spaces are as diverse as authors and books. Where is your favorite space to write?
DiAnn: My treadmill, beginning at 5:30 in the morning until 7:30 when the smell of coffee and a rumbling tummy draws me to the kitchen with my laptop. If you do the research, exercise encourages the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus. That means creativity to me!
Carrie: It clearly works! Your books keep getting better and better!
Describe your main characters, and tell me who you would cast in their roles if Hollywood wanted to produce Deep Extraction as a movie! (which they really should)
DiAnn: Special Agent Tori Templeton works the violent crime division of Houston’s FBI, and she’s not only an outstanding investigator but a woman searching from life than her career. Rachel McAdams would play the role of Tori!
US Marshal Cole Jeffers rose through the ranks of his career until a bullet caused him to think twice about what God wanted for him, but Cole’s a survivor and values his role in keeping people safe. Travis Van Winkle would play the role of Cole!
Carrie: Confession – I had to look up who Travis Van Winkle is (Sorry, Trav) but ohhhh where is my fan?!? Definitely a great pick for Cole 🙂
What surprised you about Deep Extraction or your characters as you wrote their story?
DiAnn: I’m an organic writer, so many times I’m surprised at my characters’ choices. In Deep Extraction, the murder victim lived a double life and successfully pulled it off until his actions got him killed.
Carrie: “organic writer” sounds so much nicer than “pantser” 😉
What do you most want readers to take away from Deep Extraction?
DiAnn: Our choices define us, but we can grow into better people if we have the courage to change.
Carrie: Absolutely. So true.
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me, DiAnn! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
DiAnn: The third book in the FBI Task Force series is High Treason.
Carrie: Eeee!! Could 2018 hurry up and get here?? Can’t wait!
