about the book

She’s bent on fun.
He’s bent on faith.
Till true love bridges the gap.

Cat O’Bryen is the prodigal daughter unhappy with God. First, the father with whom she reconciled dies of cancer and now her twin sister and best friend marries, leaving Cat at home with a newlywed mother, her new husband, and a little brother. But when Cat moves in with a roommate of questionable morals, her family is worried, certain she’s on a path that could damage her faith forever.

Reluctant to get involved with a woman like the one who destroyed his life, ex-Navy SEAL Pastor Chase Griffin steers clear of the attraction he feels for Cat O’Bryen. Until her family begs him to take her under his wing, hoping he can draw her back into the fold. But when the draw she has on him proves too strong to resist, he must rely on the strength of God to offer a friendship as steady and strong as the God whose love is wooing her home.

“…sometimes love isn’t safe, but if He’s involved, it’s always worth the risk.”

Once again, Julie Lessman has delivered a captivating romance that is both unapologetically passionate and unapologetically spiritual. She’s not the ‘Passion with a Purpose’ author for nothing 😉

In His Steadfast Love, we catch up with the O’Bryen family in all their wedded bliss. Except still-single Cat is not exactly blissful about everyone else’s marital happiness. Combine her dissatisfaction with her anger at God and you have a volatile combination.

Pastor Chase Griffin, ex-Navy Seal, is determined not to get involved with anyone who reminds him of his former girlfriend, but he promised his best friends that he would look out for their sister Cat. Combine his growing attraction for her with Cat’s wild side … and once again you have a volatile combination.

Into this fireworks-ready ‘pastor and the prodigal’ setup, Julie Lessman adds some mega-hot kisses, intense emotion, and a powerful message of God’s steadfast love. She doesn’t shy away from tough issues, from emotion, from rebellion, or from passion. But she also doesn’t water down the message of Jesus in any way. And in the process, we are introduced to delightful characters that set up camp in our hearts. Besides the O’Bryen family and friends, there is Miss Lilly who is perhaps my new fave Julie Lessman character. In the words of Cat herself, Miss Lilly is a hoot! I adored her feisty no-nonsense approach to both Chase and Cat, and her heart made me want to reach inside the pages and HUG her tight. (While I’m inside the pages, I’m going to take a detour and purse whomp Cat’s boyfriend Cooper with the heaviest book-laden bag I can find. Fair warning.)

Bottom Line: His Steadfast Love will hit you in all the feels. You’ll laugh, grin, cry, get angry, and – of course – SWOON. Along the way, you’ll fall in love with the O’Bryen circle and even with Jesus – whether for the first time or all over again. You can read this novel as a stand alone but it’s best to go back and start from the beginning of the series. If you’re looking for stories that present the messes of life against the backdrop of redemption – with a hearty dose of stick-your-head-in-the-freezer passion, this series is for you!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 5 stars / Fantastic!

KissingBook Level: 5 / Read this from the safety of the nearest freezer.

CARRIE!!!! WHOA, girl … thank you for the FAB review, my sweet friend — this blesses the socks off of me, which is good because my feet get hot in summer, God bless you!!

SOOOO appreciate this wonderful review, girlfriend, but especially your precious friendship.

HUGS HUGS HUGS right back atcha, my dear friend! Can’t wait for whatever you have up your sleeve next 🙂

  2. Courtney Clark

YES to everything you said!!!!! I LOVED Miss Lilly, the romance, the amazing story of forgiveness and restoration. I’m with you on the purse-whomping, too! I’ll be right behind you with my oversized bag 🙂

I’m trying to put my jumbled happy thoughts about this one together, myself. And speaking of the romance, do you have a freezer I can borrow 😉 whew!

    • Julie Lessman

COURTNEY!!! SO glad you liked it and realllly thrilled you LOVED Miss Lilly because guess what?

I purposely created her as a colorful character because I intend to write a sweet secular novel with Lake Loon as the setting and lots of flashbacks of Miss Lilly who has passed on and left her estate to her wayward nephew from Ireland (soccer star) and the hospice nurse who attended her in her last days. BUT … since so many people have been telling me how much they love Miss Lilly, I’m thinkin’ I’ll just have her on her deathbed, surviving another couple of years to keep her nephew in line and hook him up with the nurse. 😉

And I blame the 100-degree weather at Lake of the Ozarks this summer for all the steam in His Steadfast Love! Trust me, I had lots of fans going when I wrote it … 😉

      Hugs,
      Julie

      • Carrie

You can’t kill Miss Lilly!!!! I won’t allow it!!!! Lol

        • Julie Lessman

LOL … how ’bout just a coma where they think she will die? Thus her bad-boy nephew comes to visit in order to get away from problems back home? Here’s part of the blurb I’d already written, modified to keep Miss Lilly alive and kicking … hopefully to kick her nephew’s butt!

When international playboy and Irish soccer star Rob McGill learns he stands to inherit Lake Loon and a lakeside cottage from a great aunt who is in a coma, it seems the perfect place to heal from game injuries and escape a tabloid scandal. At thirty-three he’s disillusioned with the game, his fiancee, and life in general, craving nothing but a little peace and solitude to get his head on straight. But when he discovers the cottage he hopes to inherit is not only inhabited by a pretty prude of a nurse, but soon by a crusty Aunt Lilly as well, his plans take a nose-dive in the lake.

    • Carrie

I’m still IN my freezer, Courtney. You’re on your own 😉

  3. Jeanne Bishop

Wow! Five stars from Miss Carrie! I have not read any of Julie’s books, but you have never steered me wrong.

I will get the freezer ready based on your Kissing Level.

    • Julie Lessman

LOL, Jeanne … I guarantee if you like a high kissing level, this book is for you! But first, I highly recommend you get the FREE DOWNLOAD of A Glimmer of Hope, which is the prequel novella to this series. Not only will it give you a sneak peek at the first chapter of book 1, Isle of Hope: Unfailing Love, but it will set the family and setting up for you.

Also, if you like the prequel, you’re in luck because book 1, which was listed on Family Fiction magazine’s Top 15 Novels of 2015 and currently has a 5-star rating on Amazon with 219 reviews, is currently on a special e-sale of only 99 cents, so I hope you consider downloading that too! Here is the link to A Glimmer of Hope and the link to my Isle of Hope page, which not only has great pix of the hero and heroine, but a number of excerpts. Good luck in the contest!

Julie, thank you so much for both links! I will be downloading the prequel novella because I especially like reading books in order (a little OCD there – lol) and love background material. It makes the stories so much richer.

        Thanks again!

        • Julie Lessman

No, JEANNE, thank YOU, my friend, for giving my books a chance! Happy reading and GOOD LUCK in the contest!

          Hugs,

  4. Winnie Thomas

Wow! 5 stars and a kissing level of 5! That makes it a must-read book. I might have to wait until winter so I can sit in the snow to read it! 😀

    • Julie Lessman

LOL, WINNIE, that might be a good idea! 😉 I will say that this book has the most steam of the series, but only because there are so many married couples that I couldn’t resist a bedroom scene or two. But I promise — nothing but kisses!

If you read it and like it, let me know. And if not? Uh, well, never mind. 😉

      Hugs and GOOD LUCK!
      Julie

      • Winnie Thomas
