Riveting New Series Offers Legal Suspense with a Romantic Twist

In the biggest case of her career, attorney Kate Sullivan is tapped as lead counsel to take on Mason Pharmaceutical because of a corporate cover-up related to its newest drug. After a whistleblower dies, Kate knows the stakes are much higher than her other lawsuits.

Former Army Ranger turned private investigator Landon James is still haunted by mistakes made while serving overseas. Trying to forget the past, he is hired by Kate to look into the whistleblower’s allegation and soon suspects that the company may be engaging in a dangerous game for profit. He also soon finds himself falling for this passionate and earnest young lawyer.

Determined not to make the same mistakes, he’s intent on keeping Kate safe, but as the case deepens, it appears someone is willing to risk everything–even murder–to keep the case from going to trial.

I am loving this new crop of legal thrillers in Christian fiction, and I’m adding Rachel Dylan to my list of go-to authors in the subgenre.  Her Bethany House debut Deadly Proof is full of action, suspense, and a dash of romance too. A thread of faith weaves throughout the story as well, reminding us that God’s ways are higher than our own and that He holds us close when we’re broken.

Kate Sullivan is a wonderfully strong heroine, fierce of spirit and solid in character. Yet, she’s not afraid to be vulnerable or to admit she needs help. As far as Landon James – well…. he had me at “Army Ranger” lol. I enjoyed watching their friendship progress into more over the course of the novel, though I never really felt the sparks between them like I wanted to. Still, they make a great team and they balance each other nicely.

The insider look into corporate law is intriguing and informative, and the basic case scenario is one that’s becoming all too familiar. Getting to observe both sides in action adds further layers to the plot as well as to the characters involved. I admit that I figured out the bad guy fairly early on, but the way Dylan presents the story (with some twists I did NOT see coming) held my attention steady nonetheless.

Bottom Line: If you’re a fan of John Grisham but would like a cleaner alternative with a message that can strengthen your faith, then you’ll love Rachel Dylan’s Deadly Proof. Strong characters, smart writing, an intriguing and relevant plot, and harrowing suspense and action scenes all combine to make a great read. The Atlanta setting comes alive but doesn’t overwhelm the story, in many ways a background player to a vivid ensemble. Since this is the first in the series, I’m also really interested to see which (if any) of the supporting characters get their chance to shine in the next book.

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4 stars / Love it!

I was intrigued from the beginning but the part of your review that said if you like a clean Grisham that would help strengthen your faith read this made me add this to my TBR list.

Deadly Proof sounds like a good mystery and trying to find out why the whistle blower was killed and who’s behind it all. Along with romance, it has to be a good book. Are these e-books or paperbacks? I only have a pc.
