As Christmas approaches, widowed Reverend Caleb Brennan needs a wife, or his vengeful father-in-law will take his young daughters.
When his mail-order bride jilts him, Caleb grows desperate.
During a storm, he finds an unconscious boy outside his home with signs of foul play. Despite his previous misfortune, obligation compels Caleb to lug the stranger inside.
But as he provides first aid, he discovers more than he expected.
Bounty hunter Grace Blackwell refuses to owe a debt to any man, especially one as charming as Reverend Brennan. To repay him for saving her life, Grace agrees to pose as his mail-order bride.
If their ploy is discovered, Caleb could lose his daughters. But in their pretense, the reverend and the bounty hunter might just both lose their hearts.

“She’d be silly to care for a man who would never fancy her.”
A Match of Sorts by Lucette Nel has all the elements I love in a Christmas read. It’s quick, it’s swoony, it’s sweet and it’s cozy. It has great characters that you care about immediately, and a sweet message of restoration.
Let me get this out of the way right now – Keep your fans handy for whenever Caleb is in a scene. Whew. His love for his daughters, his love for God, and his caring heart make him completely swoonworthy. Grace is a bit prickly at first but you can’t help but love her too. She’s a strong character but her heart is vulnerable and as her story unfolds we understand why. Her journey to ‘home’ is touching and romantic. There are also moments of humor and adorableness … and moments where you want to holler through the pages at the characters but they aren’t listening to you 😉
Tucked in the heart of A Match of Sorts is a tender message of trusting God and letting Him restore the wounds that life has left behind. Both Caleb and Grace have scars on their hearts, but Caleb’s relationship with God sustains him. Something that Grace doesn’t completely understand – but longs to.
Bottom Line: A Match of Sorts is the perfect pick for a wintry weekend read. It’s a quick read but it’s not sacrificing on quality in any way. A sweet story guaranteed to make you smile and well-drawn characters you’ll want to spend more time with!
