Author Interview (and a Giveaway!): Janet Lynn Mitchell & Food for Thought

January 8, 2018 Author Interview, Christian, giveaway, Janet Lynn Mitchell, nonfiction 34

As part of the Celebrate Lit tour for Food for Thought, please welcome Janet Lynn Mitchell to the blog today!

Candid, dynamic, friendly…and memorable are some of the words used to describe Janet Mitchell. Her fun, engaging style keeps her audiences wanting more. As a master storyteller, she shares her heart, passions and faith, relating incidents from her life that will touch you and make you laugh. Janet addresses relevant life issues and how it just takes one to make a difference in your world!

Janet has held staff positions with Youth for Christ and Forest Home Christian Conference Center and has served as the director of a Christian preschool. Janet is a CLASS Speaker (Christian Leaders, Authors, and Speakers) and is a popular speaker for women’s events, MOPS, family camps and single-parent groups.

As a senior in high school, Janet lost the use of her legs following surgery. On the night of her tenth surgery, she met Marty, who became her cheerleader and was alongside her as she learned to walk again. Eventually, he became her husband. Janet and Marty have been married for over thirty-five years and have three children. Janet’s knee problems reoccurred when she was thirty-two. She was horrified to learn she had been a victim of medical negligence, fraud and concealment. Her additional surgeries had been attempts to correct the mistakes. Janet has since become a voice for others who have suffered medical fraud. Assembly Bill 2571, borne out of her misfortunes, unanimously passed both the California Assembly and the Senate and was signed into state law on August 31, 2000. Her story, Taking a Stand, has motivated others to “take a stand” and remain firm in their faith through the good, bad, and the outrageous.

Janet has been featured on radio programs across the nation, including popular programs such as Focus on the Family and Billy Graham’s Decision Today. Janet has appeared on television programs such as, Fox, CBS and ABC News, Aspiring Women, The Harvest Show, and Chuck and Jenny. Her stories and articles have appeared in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Multnomah’s Stories for the Extreme Teen, and in magazines such as Woman’s World, Light and Life, and Celebrate Life. Her Testimony, “When Doctors Make Mistakes,” was published in the July/August 2005 issue of Today’s Christian Woman magazine.

Janet’s book, A Special Kind of Love, published by Broadman and Holman and Focus on the Family, has been highlighted by Rick Warren in his “Ministry Toolbox.” Her Hands on Faith: Family Nights and Hands on Faith: Family Fun books by Carson- Dellosa are now available along with Janet’s five new Praying Scripture Flip Books. Janet’s Taking a Stand was released in November of 2006. It is truly a testimony of God’s faithfulness through the good, bad and outrageous. This past year Janet’s latest book, Words Matter became available. One thing Janet has learned is: It just takes one to change the world we live in.

Food for Thought is filled with personalized verses just for you. It’s been written to help you claim God’s Word as your own. The thoughts included within the verses are from fellow dieters.

Food for Thought is not meant to be a substitute for actual Scripture, but an addition, bringing you new insight, perspective, hope and encouragement as you move toward and reach your weight-loss goal. Blank pages have been placed in the back so that you can add additional Scripture and/or words of encouragement.

Recite these verses and include them when you pray. Then watch as God’s Word rejuvenates and empowers you. Experience your faith increasing, as faith comes by hearing, reading, speaking, and living the Word of God.

Hi Janet! Welcome to the blog!

apples or oranges

Janet: Apples because of their crunch!

Carrie: Yum!

winter or summer

Janet: Summer as I love the sunshine.

Carrie: I love sunshine too… but in the winter 😀

dogs or cats

Janet: Dogs because I can take them for walks and dogs play with me.

Carrie: Yes!! Dogs are the best friends 🙂

coffee or tea

Janet: I love my coffee! If tea tasted and smelled like coffee I’d like tea too.

Carrie: If coffee tasted like coffee smells, I would like coffee lol.

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Janet: I’d love to know when my friends and family were truly hurting. You know, the times that they keep to themselves.

Carrie: yes! and then how best to help them ♥

Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?

Janet: I loved the “Little House on the Prairie” books. My favorite character was Laura Ingalls Wilder. I even sewed together a quilt to use on my bed as I imagined it was one like she would have used.

Carrie: I love that!

Q: Do you have any strange writing habits/quirks? Any snacks/beverages that are a must when you sit down to write?

Janet: When I schedule a full day or weekend to write I will do it right. I go to the movies and buy a large popcorn. I also bring a sack so that I can pour the popcorn in it and get my free refill before walking out the doors. Then I go home and pour the popcorn in a bowl bringing it into my office for some serious writing!

Carrie: Haha!! I’ve never thought of going to the theater just for popcorn! That’s a brilliant idea!!

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Food For Thought?

Janet: My prayer is that readers take away the truths in God’s Word. That they realize that Scripture can be applied to every area of their lives even their diets.

Carrie: The Bible is so full of treasures, isn’t it?

Thank you for the interview with Janet Lynn Mitchell and telling me about her book “Food for Thought”. I think it will be a very interesting read.

As for movie theater snack, hands down it’s their popcorn. I, too, make sure to get the refill to bring home. 🙂 We don’t have a theater in our town, so most times it never makes it home since we have a 35 mile drive to get home. LOL

  2. Lori Smanski

this really sounds interesting. I know I don’t have much will power at times and it can be a struggle. I would like to give this a try. I found this to be a good interview. I don’t snack at the theaters. I do tend to snack at home with a movie though. I try to have fruits and vegies, but I really like cheese and crackers. So I guess I cheat a little and will have my cheese and crackers with fruit or vegies on the side. LOL

  3. Janet Estridge

I enjoy movie theater popcorn but it is so expensive. It’s not 25 cents, anymore, like it used to be.
From one Janet Lynn to another.
Thanks for entering me in your giveaway.

  4. Natalya Lakhno

What’s your favorite movie theater snack? Hmmm….is there anything else besides popcorn??? LOL

  5. Kara Vaughan Marks

I like to have some salty and sweet, so it’s usually sharing a popcorn and then having a small candy portion.

  6. Penny Mooney

I loved your interview. I love popcorn or veggies with ranch dressing. Nothing beats the movie theater popcorn.

  7. MH

No movie theater snack. I know, it’s weird. My kids love their popcorn and blue raspberry slushees, though.

  8. Kelly Blackwell

I would love to claim lots of movie theater snacks, but really popcorn with enough butter to make Paula Dean happy. 🙂 MMMM Not something I should be thinking about right now on Whole 30. 🙂
