Friday completely snuck up on me this week. But here it is!!! Yay!

And since it’s Friday, it’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

The book I’m featuring today is The Thorn Keeper by my dear friend Pepper Basham.

He only needed to survive one more day. Then he’d be home…back on US soil.

    HAPPY FRIDAY!

“Death hovered in the shadows of the room, a shapeless presence as familiar to Ashleigh Dougall as the scent of morphine.” The Thornbearer by Pepper Basham.
That is the first line of the Prologue.
The first line of Chapter 1 is equally great: “There is a distinct difference between marrying a man you do not love, and falling in love with a man you cannot marry.”

ooooo LOVE!!! It’s the older sister to my book today haha! I love those first lines – both of them. So gripping and poetic.

And I know this isn’t a first line, but what a great line it is: “The hurt crashed alive from its one-year sabbatical and nursed the ache of insecurity…” I moved this up on my TBR list because of the scavenger hunt, and I am so glad that I did.

TTB & TTK are both full of great lines! I had to force myself NOT to go on a quoting rampage when I reviewed them lol!

The flickering flames from the kerosene lamp danced on the bedroom wall as Miriam Yoder opened the letter from her mamm.
From A BLESSING FOR MIRIAM by Jerry S Eicher.

  4. LOVE Pepper’s books, so it is super fun to see one here!! 🙂

Soon I will hear those sacred words, and there will be no turing back.

“Isabella stumbled along the rough boards of the dock, feeling exposed without her corset and many layers of petticoats.” – Finders Keepers by Sarah Monzon

    Just started this one today!!!

  6. Andrea Stephens

“Lydia King took a tentative step into Mr. Lowe’s hazy office, feeling like Bob Cratchit approaching Scrooge.” A Heart Most Certain by Melissa Jagears.
I love this book! It was literally sitting right next to my mousepad. I want to keep it forever but have promised to give it to someone else 🙁

The Thorn Keeper sounds really good.

  7. Winnie Thomas

“Sometimes in the dead of night, Lynette Carlisle heard her mother’s voice. Sometimes it was easy to forget her mother had been dead twelve years.” The Things We Knew by Catherine West, and yes, it was two lines. 😀

I love Pepper’s books, too. I can’t wait for The Thorn Healer to come out.

  8. “The day before an arsonist set my house on fire, I had a long list of things to do.” ~ The Pug List by Alison Hodgson

LOVE Pepper’s books! The depth of feeling in those books was awesome. I love when a book can grab at me like those two did. I can’t wait for the third one! 🙂

  9. New to me author who contacted me for a review and knocked my socks off!

    Blackberry Moon (June) 1813
From inside the cool, shadowy wood, Totka Lawe squinted into a bright meadow.
Carrie, you NEED to read Beneath the Blackberry Moon: The Red Feather by April Gardner. Lori Benton/Laura Frantz quality! I can’t wait to read the next book!

  10. Eeep I’m super excited about my line for this week! Lisa Bergren posted this quote from her sequel to Three Wishes on Facebook the other day, and I’ve been waiting all week to share it!!

“I loved her. God help me, I loved her with an intensity that threatened to drown me. Never had a woman captivated me so. I didn’t want it…hadn’t wanted marriage. It chafed, this idea that my mother had captured me this way, tying me back to my home with the aid of but a wisp of a woman from another time. And yet Zara had awakened me to all I had here, now. The importance of family. The steadying influence of a woman’s love. The idea that this was but one chapter in my own book of life.” –Javier, FOUR WINDS
