about the book

A funny, heartfelt romance about how an antique shop, a wardrobe, and a mysterious tea cup bring two C.S. Lewis fans together in a snowy and picturesque Oxford, England.

Emelia Mason has spent her career finding the dirt on the rich and famous. But deep down past this fearless tabloid-reporter façade, there’s a nerdy Narnia-obsessed girl who still can’t resist climbing into wardrobes to check for the magical land on the other side. When a story she writes produces tragic results, she flees to Oxford, England—home to C.S. Lewis—to try and make amends for the damage she has caused.

Peter Carlisle was on his way to become one of Great Britain’s best rowers—until he injured his shoulder and lost his chance at glory. He’s determined to fight his way back to the top even if it means risking permanent disability to do so. It’s the only way he can find his way past failing the one person who never stopped believing in his Olympic dream.

When Peter and Emelia cross paths on her first night in Oxford, the attraction is instant and they find common ground in their shared love of Narnia. But can the lessons from a fantasyland be enough to hold them together when secrets of the real world threaten to tear them apart? Cobblestone streets, an aristocratic estate, and an antique shop with curious a wardrobe bring the world of Narnia to life in Kara Isaac’s inspiring and romantic story about second chances.

This sounds like just the kind of story I’d like to read! Thanks for telling us more about Kara and her books.

I forgot to add, I have read the Chronicles of Narnia and seen the movies and loved them all. The Magician’s Nephew is one of my favorites because my son acted in that play.

  2. Ooh, that’s tough. I think Book One will always be my favorite. I grew up on that story. I still remember an old animated version that had me in tears every time I saw the lion die. It may even be part of what shaped my heart for loving the power of fiction.

  3. Kay Garrett

I’ve never read them, but have them on my list for when life slows down. Soon for both I hope!

  4. I LOVE CoN SOOOOOOOOO much. That’s one reason I loved Kara’s book.

If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s charming.

I love all of the Narnia books, but I think the first and the last are my favorites. The first because of the wonder of seeing Narnia for the first time along with the Pevensies and the last because they finally get to stay forever and it’s better than before . . . and the story is just beginning.

I’m just sorry that Disney/Walden Media stopped after three books. I would have loved to see all of them made. 😀

gasp! 😉 Well, you must at least read The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe! I insist 😀

  5. MH

Narnia books are household favorites. The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe is still my favorite.

  6. Alison Boss

I LOVE the Narnia series! Our family so enjoys the new Narnia movies, and the Focus on the Family audio series is AMAZING! ‘The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe’ is my favorite. I hope the movie rights issue can someday be worked out so Disney can continue making movies of the rest of the Narnia series. The first 3 were phenominal! Thanks for the opportunity of this giveaway!!!

  7. Marylin Furumasu

I loved all the books but the Magician’s Nephew is my favorite.
I read them when I was in college many many years ago. Now that the movies have come out its fun to remember them.

  8. I have only read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe so I that would be my favorite. I have fond memories of reading it to my kids when they were little. Thanks for the giveaway.

  9. Elaina

I have read Prince Caspian and Chronicles of Narnia-The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe 🙂 I think I like the first the one the best! I love the movies too! I hoping to start The Voyage of the Dawn Treader soon! 😀

  10. Terrill Rosado

I realize that everybody will be shaking their heads at me, but alas I have not read any of the Narnia books. I did start reading one of the books to my son when he was younger, but he didn’t care for it and we moved on.

Personally, I love the allegory, but I have never been a big reader of fantasy.

  11. Thank you everyone for your kind words and Carrie for having me (again!). I hope the winner enjoys Peter and Emelia’s adventures 🙂

My favourite Narnia book is The Magician’s Nephew. The scene where the White Witch is in London with poor old Uncle Andrew makes me laugh and laugh every time! And I love seeing the creation of Narnia, too 🙂

  12. Jessica

I love this kind of post and receiving an email telling me about it because I get to know authors that I didn’t know before. I have Kara’s book added on my ‘to-read’ list on GoodReads.:)

  13. Janice Moore

I have see 3 of the Chronicles of Narnia movies and all were impressive, entertaining and inspirational!

  14. Arletta

I actually have not read any of the books. I didn’t like “fantasy” when I was a young child and then just never read them. We own the books and my daughters have all read them. I’ve watched the movies though.

  15. debra lindquist

The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is my favorite. I have the movies for allthis series.

  16. Melissa Romine

I have read the Narnia books. I read them aloud to my two oldest children when they were in elementary school. Not sure which is my favorite though – one of the first two!!

    Love Kara’s books!!

  17. Amanda

I have never read the Narnia series, though I loved all the movies. I really loved the one that used to play on PBS when I was a kid. My sister and I used to pretend we were going to Narnia too.

  18. Connie Scruggs

I was given the set of The Chronicles of Narnia for Christmas when I was a child. I started reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I didn’t really enjoy it. I never went back to them. I guess it just wasn’t my thing.

  19. I think the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. When I was little I tried to walk through my closet I was so enchanted with the story.
