about the book

When love storms in…

Wealth manager Sam Conrad is accustomed to his domineering father ordering him around, especially at the bank where they both work. But when his father demands that Sam manage the inheritance of his bossy ex-fiancée, Sam has finally had enough. He leaves in search of a new life, and attorney Big Roy Bosarge from Mobile, Alabama, agrees to mentor Sam on his quest for direction. Sam didn’t expect to be thrown together with Big Roy’s eccentric and opinionated daughter.

Storm damage forces lonely romance writer Elinor Bosarge and her hairless cat, Mr. Darcy, out of her Fort Morgan Beach cottage. She plans to take refuge in the boathouse on her parents’ estate, but finds the place already occupied by one of her father’s “projects.” She’s shocked her father would allow another young man onto the property after his last mentee robbed her family and broke her heart. And from the moment she meets Sam Conrad, they disagree about everything from her cat to how to best renovate a local nursing home.

Between her mother’s health issues and the hurricane brewing in the Gulf, Elinor feels like her life is being ripped apart. It doesn’t help that she’s falling for the man she’s determined not to trust. Sam finds himself drawn to Elinor, wanting to help her and this new family he’s grown to love. But can he overcome the barrier she’s built to keep him out? When the storm rages and the two of them are blown together, can Elinor find the faith to open her heart again?

“Her heart had found its hero.”

I have loved all the books in the Southern Hearts series by Janet Ferguson, but Blown Together is my favorite of them all! It’s sweet and funny and ROMANTIC!!! Whew, that Sam Conrad cleans up nicely 😉

And Elinor… talk about quirky heroines. She’s prickly and reserved (with good reason) and a bit attached to her hairless cat (Zuzu asks why???) Mr. Darcy. She collects first editions, writes Regency romance novels (keep that hush hush) and talks like one of her heroines would. (“Halt.”) And underneath beats a heart of faith with fierce love for those close to her. Yes… including Mr. Darcy the bald cat.

Besides cleaning up nicely (figuratively and literally), Sam has just as many reasons not to trust Elinor as she has to distrust him. At a defining crossroads in his life, Sam agrees to be mentored by his friend Cassie’s dad Big Roy – a man with amusing Southern colloquialisms and a bigger-than-life presence. (Big Roy also happens to be Elinor’s father, Cassie her sister.) While under Big Roy’s wing, Sam not only learns how to say things like “happier than a pig in mud”, he also learns what a true Father looks like in more ways than one.

My favorite part of Blown Together is watching Sam and Elinor try to figure out what to do with their attraction to each other. The scene where he’s debating whether or not to hold her hand is priceless and put a huge grin on my face! And the kisses…. sweet and full of emotion and some keep-a-fan-handy heat 😉

Bottom Line: Blown Together by Janet Ferguson is rich with emotion, and you will experience a wide range of emotions yourself as you read it – from grins to tears to forget-how-to-breathe kisses! Witty humor, endearing characters, and a vivid setting are ideal complements to the theme of love (not just romance) and trust. Trust in God. Trust in other people. Trust in yourself.  While I am sad to say goodbye to the Southern Hearts characters, the author couldn’t have ended the series on a more perfect note.

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 5 stars / Love it!

KissingBook Level: 3 / Will forget to breathe on occasion!

Love your review! I just won this book at SLB’s Birthday party!!! I can’t wait to read it.

I think hairless cats would be adorable. I would imagine that they require more specialized care than one with hair and hopefully anyone getting one would have researched that. I’m more of a dog person but can definitely love on friends friendly cats. 🙂

    Great review – thanks!

Hmmmm, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a hairless cat, but my daughter-in-law has a tailless cat. Thanks for the review, Carrie. Janet, I’m hoping to get to this book before the month is over. It sounds wonderful and I’m excited to read it.
