about the book

When a fellow FBI agent is kidnapped and a protected witness vanishes, Leo Gallagher will stop at nothing to find them both.

So when he discovers a link between the case and a single mother in Wyoming, Leo and his trusty K-9 partner rush to question Alicia Duncan.

Could she be the key to locating the missing persons? Not if a killer has anything to say about it. Someone is determined to keep Alicia from talking, so Leo and his chocolate Lab must keep her and her little boy safe on their family ranch.

With danger lurking around every corner, Leo must work overtime to not lose another person who’s important to him.

“He didn’t want her gratitude; he wanted her love but had no right to ask for it.”

What a great start to this newest continuity series from Love Inspired Suspense. Romance, great characters, nail-biting action and suspense… oh, and Zuzu won’t let me forget to mention – DOGS!

Heroic dogs at that. Zuzu is all a-swoon.

She’s also already claimed Opal as her new favorite heroine and is looking forward to discussing everything they have in common. I did feel obligated to point out that, other than their shared boxer characteristics (white chest and the white-socked paws), they really aren’t all that similar. Opal does police dog stuff and Zuzu… well, she’s good at being cute and sleeping 😀

Anyway… back to Guardian. Leo and True make a fantastic team – and Alicia’s heart won’t be the only one racing when you see them in action! I loved the insight into their training, their work, and their partnership, particularly in regards to True’s skill of finding bodies underwater and what they do when bullets start flying. (Zuzu had to cover her eyes with her paw a couple of times when the suspense got too much for her 😉 )

Alicia, Charlie, and her dad are also great characters – people you feel you could easily befriend for life. Alicia’s bravery is just one of the reasons you’ll fall in love with her as quickly as Leo does. Her warmth and sincerity are more marks in her favor!

Probably my favorite thing about the book (besides the romance…. because, well, duh.) is the continuing story arc that will carry on through all the books in the series. The immediate story line that begins with Alicia witnessing the aftermath of a murder does reach a conclusion but the plot elements that tie the whole series together will be ongoing. And I gotta say – in this series – I am dying (perhaps not the best choice of words) to see how it all plays out.

Bottom Line: Guardian by Terri Reed will keep you on the edge of your favorite reading chair! Danger, action, suspense – it has it all. A sweet romance and a close-knit team round out the mix and add to the emotional depth overall. Additionally, an intriguing subplot that will continue through the rest of the series grabs your attention and has you eagerly waiting for the next book!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4 stars / Love it!

KissingBook Level: 3 / Will forget to breathe on occasion

Terri: I love to listen to music while writing. I have an eclectic taste in music and like songs that evoke emotion or a rhythm for my words, even if the lyrics don’t match the story I’m writing.

  • Aftermath by Rascal Flatts
  • I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me
  • Lessons Learned by Carrie Underwood
  • Grace Tells Another Story by Mercy Me
  • It Happens All The Time by Megan Hilty
  • Just You n’ Me by Chicago
  • My Destiny by Katharine McPhee
  • Daylight by Maroon 5
  • Finally Home by Mercy Me

Carrie: Love seeing MercyMe on that list! And, as a bonus for y’all, Terri builds off the Carrie Underwood song on her playlist and tells us some lessons learned in Guardian!

Terri: One of the love lessons in Guardian was to take a risk on love. Both Leo and Alicia had past wounds that caused them to protect their hearts. I think most people have experienced hurt feelings which makes being vulnerable difficult. It’s so easy to guard ourselves and keep people at an emotional distance. But opening our hearts and inviting someone in is so much harder and takes bone deep courage.  That is what my characters had to learn and a lesson I’ve had to learn in my own life.

Love all of Terri’s playlist! I’d rather listen to music than TV any day – that and a good book.

How can you not love romance AND dogs? I can’t wait to read Guardian. 🙂
