Author Interview (and a Giveaway!): Jenna Victoria

I am delighted to welcome Jenna Victoria as a guest on the blog today!

Ever since her grandfather co-created Twinkies, Snowballs & Hostess cupcakes for Intercontinental Baking Company, circa 1955, Jenna has yet to taste a cake she hasn’t liked. Jenna writes books for readers who enjoy sweet & compelling romances, and also for those who look for her  “fiction that feeds your faith” titles – happily-ever-after romance & romantic suspense stories with a Christian world view. Her stories emulate those she enjoys reading…with a heroine who is in grave danger & a hero who is smart enough to get out of her way as she kicks butt & takes down names… and those that feature  satisfying fairy-tale-endings.

Her clean romances won’t put you into a diabetic coma, and her faith-based romances aren’t preachy or unrealistic. It is her glad purpose to glorify God and His sacrificial love through His Son, Jesus Christ through books that illustrate hope & peace in unbearable situations. Her first triple negative breast cancer diagnosis in 2012 has led to surgeries, radiation,  reoccurrences and incurable metastasis. Still, Jenna continues to praise God and trust His oversight in her life; and continues to write more books.

You can connect with Jenna on her website, Facebook, her blog, Instagram, Amazon and Twitter. Plus, she reviews books too!

Her newest book, Love Among the Lilacs, released April 4th from Forget Me Not Romances!

Bookkeeper Mollie Wright knows about living on the streets, and her purchase of sweet Lilac Cottage is a dream come true. She is determined to stay and fight when a legal error puts her ownership at risk.

Attorney Sean Grady never wanted his great-aunts to sell their cottage in Westchester County, New York, so when a paperwork snafu puts the deal on hold, he moves swiftly to evict the pretty, feisty squatter.

Mollie finds unexpected allies in Grady Cove neighbors and a member of Sean’s own family but knows the clock is ticking. Will a theft and her past secrets force a showdown to heartache, or will Mollie and Sean discover home is truly where your heart is?

Hi Jenna! Welcome to the blog! I start all of my guests out with a fast four:

apples or oranges

Jenna: Apples. I immediately think of cider donuts, apple pie, applesauce, apple crisp… 🙂

Carrie: Mmmm now my mouth is watering for my very fave cider donuts!

winter or summer

Jenna:  Summer 100 percent. The hotter the better. Clearly I was abducted at birth and mistakenly given to a family having long term roots in the Northeast (including bitterly cold Maine and snowbound Nova Scotia). Brrrr.  #ICantBeRelated

Carrie: hahahaha!

dogs or cats

Jenna: Tough one, but will select cats. As I love to travel, and take off on the spur of the moment, cats require less maintenance by friends neighbors.

Carrie: As much as I love my sweet Zuzu, you are absolutely right. She just comes with us lol.

coffee or tea

Jenna:  Coffee. Coffee. I prefer darker roast artisanal beans that provide a rich, aromatic brew that makes you sit up and take notice.

Carrie: If coffee tasted as good as it smelled to me, I would be hooked.

Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Jenna: As someone who undergoes monthly chemo for triple-negative breast cancer, it would have to be the power to cure all cancers in the world.

Carrie: Enduring chemo is a superpower all on its own, but one I wish you didn’t have to have. ♥

Other than the Bible, what are five of your most cherished books?

Jenna: Ugh. Just 5? 🙂

Carrie: haha! I get that complaint a lot 😉

  1. Streams in the Desert, a classic devotional by L. B. Cowan
  2. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
  3. A Time for Anger by Franky Schaeffer
  4. Gervase by Ann Moray
  5. Relic by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

Carrie: A Wrinkle in Time is one of my very favorite books!

If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?

  • I always carry a pen and small notebook for plot bunnies
  • I always have hand sanitizer, band-aids and antibiotic ointment for the tiniest of cuts as I have a compromised immune system
  • I’d have to hurt you if you took my smart phone! In my notes app, I keep my entire life organized, down to hashtag lists, social media tips, travel providers, hotel loyalty accounts, key URLs and physical addresses, account logins, passwords (shhhh!)
  • You would buy stock in tissue companies as I always have at least two travel size packs in purse and pockets
  • I am probably the only woman on the planet who doesn’t carry a brush or comb with her. I’m a “set it and forget it” kind of gal. Never seemed important and takes up too much room in purse!

Carrie: “plot bunnies” – I love it!

Before I ask you about Love Among the Lilacs, I need to address something I saw in your bio. Your grandfather co-created TWINKIES?!? That is awesome. We thank him. So on that note, I must know – what’s your favorite sweet treat??

Jenna: Homemade carrot cake. It’s got vegetables in it, right? Must be healthy. 🙂

Carrie: oh of course! lol!

Love Among the Lilacs pairs a feisty bookkeeper with a determined attorney in the small town of Grady Cove. Describe Grady Cove for us. Who will we meet there?

Jenna:  Grady Cove is somewhere I would love to live. It’s on the east coast, near the ocean (hence “cove” in the name 🙂 ) and also only a short drive to some mountains near the Hudson River. Two of my favorite kind of places. Besides the hero Sean Grady and heroine Mollie Wright, there are plenty of quirky residents; Sean’s secretary Marge DeMille, who at 60 still yearns to be a star on Broadway, Harrison Gunther, a perpetually-famished chubby lawyer who loves to scrounge food, a nosy bank manager who can’t wait to pass on gossip, and octogenarian attorney Emily, who was nicknamed “The Shark” in her heyday, and has come out of retirement to represent Mollie. The two most memorable characters, though, are Sean’s great-aunts, Alma and Genevieve. Through a codicil and a will, and a real estate closing gone awry, they manage to orchestrate a very bumpy ride for Sean and Mollie on the way to true love.

Carrie: You had me at “near the ocean” and “short drive to some mountains” – my two happy places!

What do you most want readers to take away from Love Among the Lilacs?

Jenna: Although Love Among the Lilacs isn’t one of my faith-based books (it’s categorized as a “sweet/clean” romance) I incorporated a Christian world view when possible.  The two basic themes are that your past doesn’t equal your present, and life needs forgiveness to bloom. Those are the key threads.

Carrie: Forgiveness is so difficult sometimes – but so absolutely worth it.

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me, Jenna! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Jenna: I’m finishing up Wilderness Wedding, a contemporary love story set on the western border of Glacier National Park involving glamping (or glamour camping!) to be released in mid-June, and then completing Gem Mountain Romance, a northern Idaho contemporary romance between a reclusive vet with PTSD and a determined producer who wants to film a reality show next door to his remote property.

Carrie: I so badly want to visit Glacier National Park one of these days. Until then, I’ll live vicariously through your upcoming book 😉
