about the book

In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.

Maddie doesn’t believe in luck. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment —

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun… until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

“It was weird going from invisible to suddenly not.”

Lucky in Love is my first Kasie West read – and it won’t be my last! Clean and cute, this contemporary YA novel highlights the importance of friendship and of not losing sight of what’s most important.

There’s a refreshing lack of mean-girl drama – instead, the story centers around how Maddie’s life changes in the blink of an eye. I mean, what would YOU do if you turn 18 and win 50 million dollars all in one weekend?  Maddie is a delightful heroine. Sweet, a little awkward, loves her friends and family, and has a special bond with an anteater (yes, you read that correctly).  And then there’s Seth, an Asian-American with whom Maddie works at the zoo. He’s funny, easygoing, and romantic – and Maddie has a bit of a crush on him. So will you, by the time you finish reading Lucky in Love.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a cute, clean romance geared for teens/young adults, look no further than Lucky in Love by Kasie West. Live vicariously through Maddie as she wins more money than most of us will ever see in one lifetime, and enjoy her friendship with Seth. Diverse characters, heartfelt relationships, authentic struggles, and an inside peek at a small zoo behind-the-scenes. I will definitely be reading this author’s backlist ASAP!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received via the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4 stars / So cute!

Loved your review Carrie! It’s so hard to find clean reads for teens. After reading your review, I won’t worry about my daughter reading this book!

  2. Karen

I love a happy story! Sometimes it’s nice to read YA fiction. You’re never too old to enjoy a great story! I’m also extremely curious to find out about the anteater! Lol

Kasie West is a new author to me but Lucky in Love definitely sounds like a book I’d enjoy reading and sharing with others once I’ve read it. Thanks for the chance!

Like the girl in the story I don’t believe in luck either but trust in Jesus. He is faithful! I’d like to win a copy of this book.

I’ve never heard of Kasie West, but I am very interested in clean YA books. I teach youth at church and would love to loan this book to my readers in the group.

I would have no problem recommending at least this one (I haven’t read her others) to a youth group, etc.

This sounds really fun! I’ve read two of Kasie’s books (By Your Side and PS I Like You) and really liked them. Thanks for hosting!
