about the book

Lacy Marie Crocker has settled into a comfortable groove back home in New Orleans, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, she’s busier than ever running a thriving pet boutique, helping her mother organize the upcoming National Pet Pageant, and untangling her complicated love life.

But when delivering a king-sized order of dreidel-shaped doggy biscuits for a Saint Berdoodle’s bark-mitzvah, Lacy stumbles into yet another murder scene–and the last person to see the victim alive was her own father. It’s up to Lacy to clear her dad’s name from the suspect list before Detective Jack Oliver has to cage him for good.

But just when she starts pawing at the truth, she receives a threatening letter from a mysterious blackmailer bent on silencing her with her own secrets. And Lacy’s not the only one with bones in her closet. Time’s running out in this deadly cat-and-mouse game in Cat Got Your Secrets, the delightfully funny third novel in Julie Chase’s Kitty Couture mystery series, perfect for “all those feline fanciers who love to read Rita Mae Brown” (Suspense Magazine).

I can’t say enough how much I love this series, and Cat Got Your Secrets reminded me why I love it all over again. Lacy, who just wants to run her pet boutique, keeps running into bodies (clearly the pet boutique business is a dangerous one) and then of course can’t help but figure out whodunit. This time it’s personal, and I really enjoyed the larger focus on her family in this book.

There’s also the semi-love-triangle between Lacy, Chase, and Jack. To me, the choice is insanely obvious. Jack. With his low drawl, his deep emotions, and his protective instincts… how could she ever even entertain the idea of surfer boy turned lawyer Chase. But… to each her own. You’ll just have to read Cat Got Your Secrets to see which one she ultimately chooses 😉

I must also say that, while I’m not a cat person (I’m sure you’re all shocked by this confession), I do adore Penelope the cat. Please, no one tell my dog Zuzu that I said that? She’s a little bit of a diva with a whole lot of quirks, and Julie Chase has given her such great personality!

Bottom Line: Southern fiction meets cozy mystery in this fun series set in the heart of New Orleans. Lacy Crocker will become a friend, and the eccentric band of characters she surrounds herself with will quickly take up residence in your heart. Wry humor, well-plotted mystery, those great characters and enough romance to keep you swooning make Cat Got Your Secrets a must read.

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4 stars / Love it!

  1. Just started reading this and love it, Carrie! The characters are becoming familiar to me, which is what I enjoy about this series. And I love visiting New Orleans through the author’s eyes. I can’t get over all these “high end” products for pets, though. Oh … I’m in the “Jack” camp also. Hope Lacy gets it right!

I really enjoy cozy mysteries but I hadn’t heard of this series or author. The books sound really good so I’d like to read them.
