Sunday Book Club: Friends Are Friends Forever

… and now anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s is singing “if the Lord’s the Lord of them.” Sorry about that 😛

The reason for today’s topic is that I am currently in the town where I grew up, celebrating my 40th (yikes) birthday a couple of weeks early with two of my best friends. I’ve known these girls since we were in 2nd grade, and their birthday is the day before mine (they are twins). No matter how far apart we live, no matter how long we go without talking voice to voice or face to face, we remain the dearest of friends who love Jesus and love each other fiercely.

That led me to think about friends in fiction.

I think probably my fave friends in fiction are Nancy Drew and her chums Bess and George. I also think of Emma & Knightley, Sherlock & Watson, Darcey & Bingley, Wilbur and Charlotte … and of course Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin.

These are all ‘classics’ of a sort though.

What about in today’s fiction landscape? What are some of your favorite friendships in fiction?

The song is totally stuck in my head…thank you 😉 It’s a good song.
Maude and Sadie are great friends in My Heart Belongs on Mackinaw Island.

Anne and Diana. Anne and Gilbert. I think Marilla and Rachel are good friends too despite Rachel’s nosiness.

  2. Yes, the song is in my head too!:) I loved Nancy Drew and her friends because a birthday gift of The Old Clock started me on my reading journey! And Happy Birthday to you a few weeks early!Enjoy!

I know they are sisters first but the Bradford girls in Becky Wade’s new series. They are great friends as well as sisters.

Betsy and Tacy from Maude Hart Lovelace’s Betsy-Tacy series. I started reading the series with my then-seven-year-old daughter but she lost interest once the fictional best friends entered high school. I finished the series and enjoyed every single book!
And my best friend from high school has her birthday the day after mine! Except she was born a year after I was.

I would have to say :Honey Bunch”, “The Bobbsey Twins” and the “Little Women” are my best friends. Wishing you and your twin[I am a twin, too] a year of happiness and blessings.
