about the book

Must they always be continents apart?

Nobody expects Paris fashion designer Grace Railton to settle down in her Indiana town, least of all Mica Barzonni. Fifteen months ago, he turned to her for comfort and compassion following a farming accident that left him permanently injured. Then she returned to France and went silent on him.

Until, suddenly, Grace shows up on his doorstep with life-altering news.

Mica, a father? He’s barely learned to navigate his postaccident life. But this could be his chance to become the man he’s always wanted to be—the husband and father Grace and their baby son need. Now Mica just has to convince her to stay.

“…they were as mismatched as a tuxedo and a pair of cowboy boots.”

I always love visiting Indian Lake through Catherine Lanigan’s heartwarming books. Mrs. Beabots is one of my favorite characters to hang out with. Anytime we also get to visit with the Barzonni family is a delightful bonus. And that’s exactly what we get to do in His Baby Dilemma – visit with the Barzonni family AND Mrs. Beabots. So already I’m happy 🙂

Grace and Mica both take a bit of getting used to. They each have some rough edges that at first make them seem prickly and hard to relate to in their own ways. BUT as their worlds begin to revolve around sweet little Jules – instead of themselves – those edges soften and make both Grace and Mica characters you’d enjoy having as friends. A baby changes everything, after all, and that’s definitely true for Grace and Mica. To be honest, both of them are pretty selfish at first but they go through some great character growth that I think is true to life.

The romance is told in phases which I love in this case – because it gives their relationship much more dimension than just ‘insta-love’ or even ‘friends to more’. It’s nuanced and layered, and the stages happen at a believable pace. The kisses are really great too. Just sayin’ 😉

Bottom Line: His Baby Dilemma is sweet and romantic and  – dare I say – heartwarming. The characters are vividly drawn and baby Jules is adorable without being too cutesy. A great underlying message about how true love puts others first, and an intriguing potential for discussion as to the form that sacrifice takes for each character. And – as always –  a visit to Indian Lake that will leave you smiling!
