He has home advantage…
But she’s got a strong defensive play.
Hockey star Troy Green never gives up. Not on the ice. Not when he battled cancer last year. And not when it comes to his new neighbor, Michelle Robinson.
Troy only wants to help the struggling single mom and her sweet kids, but soon he’s falling for her.
Is Troy finally ready to trade in his bachelor life and become a family man?

“I decided we are worth fighting for.”
One way to my bookish heart is to write about a reformed (or reforming) bad boy, especially one whose heart is captured by some cute kids and the woman that goes with them. In Her Family’s Defender, Kim Findlay has created this very kind of hero in Troy Green! This rich playboy hockey star isn’t prepared for the way Michelle Robinson and her two kids take over his heart, so you should be prepared to SWOON on more than one occasion as you watch his protective instincts unfold. (The dancing… the kisses on the cheek… ahhhh … be still my heart!)
The kids and Troy’s flirty nature make this a cute story, and there are several endearing moments that will leave you grinning for sure. But at the same time, there is a lot of depth to these characters. Both Troy and Michelle have fought tough personal battles over the past year, and Michelle’s kids are hurting too. This dimension to the story adds multiple layers that really round out the plot and make the slow burn romance that much sweeter and breath-stealing. This also, however, makes for some frustrating decisions from time to time – you know, the kind where you want to reach inside the pages and wallop them with their own book? lol. Still, these are great characters I would want as friends – and the fabulous dynamic between the four of them is really fun to read.
Bottom Line: If you are craving a sports romance that will make you smile and swoon, with characters you’ll quickly come to care about, then Her Family’s Defender is a great choice for you! The Canadian setting was a nice change of pace and, even though I know basically nothing about hockey, I really enjoyed that dimension to the story as well. Additionally, I loved the role that the characters from book 1 played in this novel despite the fact that I have yet to read their particular story. A cute story with layered characters and a sweet message!

My Rating: 4 stars / Love it!
KissingBook Level: 3+ / Will forget to breathe on more than one occasion!
Michelle walked over to the sitting area. She shrugged her shoulders, the movement making the hem of the dress slide up a bit, Troy noticed.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me,” Michelle responded. Troy blinked. Was that an actual flirty voice?
“I’ve only danced with the kids lately, but I love dancing.” The music on the stereo changed to an upbeat song. “They played this tonight,” Michelle said. She raised her arms and started swiveling her hips, and Troy almost fell off the couch.
Michelle was relaxed, hugged by that form fitting dress, hair down, no frown, just a dreamy expression as if she was mentally miles away. And she could dance. Much better than he’d have expected. He’d never expected a shimmy like that…and when she flipped her hair—
Troy was a good dancer himself. It was his claim to fame on the team. He swore it helped his balance on the ice. He watched Michelle for a few moments, and after she flipped her hair again, he accepted the unspoken invitation.
She didn’t notice him come up to her at first, but as he began to sync his movements to hers, he gently grasped her hand and pulled her into a spin. Instead of fighting him, as he half expected, she smiled and pivoted to him so that they were moving together. When the song changed to something slow, they moved into an embrace, following the music.

Thank you for being part of the book tour for “Her Family’s Defender” by Kim Findlay. I enjoyed reading about the book and the excerpt. Cute cover. I’d love the opportunity to read the book.
hi Kay! it’s a cute book!
Thanks for promoting my book!
This may come as a surprise, but my hockey team is the Anaheim Ducks. (Long story.)Since they’re out now, as is Toronto, I’ll root for the Jets since I lived there for 17 years.
sometimes in sports we root for a team by process of elimination lol
I like reading books like this. Look forward to reading this.
thanks, Julie! It’s a great read!
I love the cover, and the story sounds so interesting. We have a hockey team here in Tampa, and they have added the sport to local hockey fans 🙂
oh yay!
I’m a big fan of the San Jose Sharks. They are in the playoffs and are playing tonight. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Go Sharks!
I enjoy good ice hockey reads – this book looks fun!
it’s very fun! But it’s got depth too! I’m getting to ready to add my review in here soon
I was born & raised in Minnesota, & used to play hockey w/ my brothers! A book involving hockey definitely catches my attention! 🙂
Thank you for sharing this blog post with me. Congrats on the tour. It is a shame know a days men and women alike in America are putting of marriage later and later. I think this book is a message of hope for people to get over things and learn to settle down with the right woman or man not let fears, etc. get in the way.
No local hockey team, but I do like the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago is a big hockey town.
This sounds like a neat book!
