Top Ten Tuesday: ‘Funnest’ Character Names in Children’s/YA Literature

Happy Tuesday, my friends!

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is ‘Best Character Names’ and originally I planned to just send you to Jen Turano’s books and point out some of my favorites of her delightful character names (Gertrude Cadwalader, Permilia Griswold, Temperance Flowerdew, etc.). BUT my friend Rachel over at Bookworm Mama totally stole the idea she didn’t know I had 😉 so I reached into my distant, elementary teacher past and pulled out my kiddy lit collection for your enjoyment today!

There are an infinite number of character names I could have chosen but I decided to pick the ones that are the most fun to say when reading a book aloud 😀

These are the character names that I love any excuse to say out loud!

What about you? What are some fun character names you love?

Such a fun list! It made me smile big! I now want to go to the library and find some fun children’s books to read even though my kids are now teenagers! 🙂

  2. What a fun twist on the meme! I’ve always loved Amelia Bedelia’s name. The other two on the list that I particularly like the way roll off the tongue are: Bartholomew Cubbins and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

  3. Winnie Thomas

Fun post, Carrie! I love Annika Banannika, Lily Pilly Pie, Lisa Pisa Pie, Ellianna Leah, Britta Boo, Buttercup (my granddaughters wanted to name their sister, Finley, that), Isla Skyla. These are pet names for some of my granddaughters, except that’s really Ellianna’s name, and Lisa is my daughter.

  4. Connie Scruggs

Beatrix Potter has some great character names. I love Jemima Puddle-duck, Pigling Bland are two of my favorites.
