She thought he was her knight in shining armor, but will a marriage of convenience prove her wrong?

After Vivian’s fiancé dies in the Great War, she thinks her life is over. But Henry, her fiancé’s best friend, comes to the rescue offering a marriage of convenience. He claims he promised his friend he would take care of her. She grows to love him, but she knows it will never work because he never shows any love for her.

Henry adores Vivian and has pledged to take care of her, but he won’t risk their friendship by letting her know. She’s still in love with the man who died in the Great War. He won’t risk heartache by revealing his true emotions.

This may be a shorter novella-length story but it is packed with emotion and a tender message of finding God in the storm – both literal and figurative. Poor Vivian and Henry go through a lot of agonizing loss and uncertainty in a short time, but watching their friendship build into a loving marriage – even with a few bumps along the way – is truly heartwarming.

I really liked Henry and his steadfast heart toward Vivian, though I wanted to shake him on more than one occasion for his overly-reserved nature with everyone else. Although, even as I type that, I am reminded that the author uses this as a meaningful story technique – to remind us of the fact that we were created for community – and I did love seeing Henry slowly come to this realization as well.

Bottom Line: Heartache abounds in Resurrection of Hope, but – as the title would suggest – so does hope. It’s about losing hope and finding it again through a heart surrendered to God.  The beginning and middle seemed a little slow and not as well-developed as I like but wow! that last third or so of this novella will keep you on the edge of your seat! I would love to see more stories set in this community, especially after the events at the end.

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 3.5 stars / Great message!
