SERIES: Silver Lining Ranch #1
GENRE: Inspirational Historical Romance
PUBLISHER: Julie Lessman
RELEASE DATE: May 19, 2018
She tampers with his life.
He tampers with her heart.
Love tampers with them both.
Desperate to escape an arranged marriage to a womanizer, twenty-two-year-old Maggie Mullaney flees New York for Virginia City, Nevada with her Aunt Liberty, two spunky suffragists intent on bettering the lives of women. Fresh out of nursing school, Maggie hopes to devote herself to serving others rather than just one man, a goal quickly affirmed when she encounters Blaze Donovan, a womanizing cowboy who both riles and rouses her pulse. But when Aunt Liberty’s parents’ house burns down, she and Maggie are coerced into staying at the ranch of Liberty’s ex-husband, Finn McShane, who just happens to be the uncle of the cocky cowboy Maggie had hoped to avoid.
If there’s one thing twenty-nine-year-old Blaze Donovan can’t abide, it’s respectable women who spout piety and prayer, so when he butts heads with perky Maggie Mullaney at St. Mary Louise Hospital, he wants to stay as far away from her as he possibly can. Unfortunately, she now lives in the bedroom next to his in his uncle’s ranch house, a revolting development that sends Blaze to The Ponderosa Saloon more than usual. But when Maggie interferes in Blaze’s life by converting his favorite “disrespectable” girl, Blaze is determined to make her pay. Only problem is—the price HE has to pay may be a little too steep for his heart.
NOTE: This book is a sweet inspirational with a bit of a higher level of romantic passion.

“…the deepest, purest love thrives in the soil of faith.”
I said this in my review of For Love of Liberty, but I’m going to say it again here too: Julie Lessman was made for writing westerns! With a cast of spitfire females, swoony-drawl cowboys and colorful phrases like “Holy snake snot!” and “Great day in the morning!”, you might even think you hear the theme song to Bonanza or Rawhide playing in your head as you immerse yourself in Finn, Liberty, Maggie, and Blaze’s stories. You will for sure be smiling and swooning in no time!
Now, y’all know that I’m a big fan of happily ever afters, which is what I thought we had with Finn and Liberty in the prequel novella. Ahem. Julie Lessman, I’m looking at you. 😉 But, y’all – I gotta admit that the journey she took them on in Love’s Silver Lining made up for that little dismaying revelation in the book blurb. They might be seventeen years older, but one of them (at least) isn’t necessarily seventeen years wiser. Needless to say, they’ve got some ‘wrasslin to do in their own hearts – before God, first and foremost. And since I am a strong-willed firstborn who can be a little feisty when provoked, I needed those lessons that Liberty had to learn too. (Oops. I just ratted her out as the one that needed to do some more maturing, didn’t I? lol)
Which brings us to Maggie and Blaze and whew goodness just go ahead and read this whole book from the safety of your freezer. Julie Lessman’s tagline isn’t “Passion with a Purpose” for no reason. Boy howdy do her characters have themselves some PASSION and sparks and fireworks. But always always always tucked between the sizzling kisses and neck nibblin’ is a parallel to the intensity with which our Savior longs for a relationship with us, to the dedicated pursuit of us that led Him to the cross, and to the ferocity with which He calls us home. And Maggie and Blaze’s friendship set on fire is one such parallel. I so loved how Lessman redeemed Blaze’s past, though it was a little disconcerting to discover one of my best friends plays an important role – as a saloon girl LOL.
Bottom Line: Saddle up for one doozy of a ride – from the opening scenes to the last, Love’s Silver Lining is packed with colorful characters, foot-stomping feistiness, and smokin’ hot kisses! It’s also packed with a solid message of redemption from the most broken pasts and of the fierce love our Savior has for each one of us. Lessman shines in this genre (as she does each one she writes in) and I cannot wait for more adventures with the gang at the Silver Lining Ranch!
