about the book

SERIES: Silver Lining Ranch #1
GENRE: Inspirational Historical Romance
PUBLISHER: Julie Lessman
RELEASE DATE: May 19, 2018
PAGES: 376

She tampers with his life.
He tampers with her heart.
Love tampers with them both.

Desperate to escape an arranged marriage to a womanizer, twenty-two-year-old Maggie Mullaney flees New York for Virginia City, Nevada with her Aunt Liberty, two spunky suffragists intent on bettering the lives of women. Fresh out of nursing school, Maggie hopes to devote herself to serving others rather than just one man, a goal quickly affirmed when she encounters Blaze Donovan, a womanizing cowboy who both riles and rouses her pulse. But when Aunt Liberty’s parents’ house burns down, she and Maggie are coerced into staying at the ranch of Liberty’s ex-husband, Finn McShane, who just happens to be the uncle of the cocky cowboy Maggie had hoped to avoid.

If there’s one thing twenty-nine-year-old Blaze Donovan can’t abide, it’s respectable women who spout piety and prayer, so when he butts heads with perky Maggie Mullaney at St. Mary Louise Hospital, he wants to stay as far away from her as he possibly can. Unfortunately, she now lives in the bedroom next to his in his uncle’s ranch house, a revolting development that sends Blaze to The Ponderosa Saloon more than usual. But when Maggie interferes in Blaze’s life by converting his favorite “disrespectable” girl, Blaze is determined to make her pay. Only problem is—the price HE has to pay may be a little too steep for his heart.

NOTE: This book is a sweet inspirational with a bit of a higher level of romantic passion.

“…the deepest, purest love thrives in the soil of faith.”

I said this in my review of For Love of Liberty, but I’m going to say it again here too: Julie Lessman was made for writing westerns! With a cast of spitfire females, swoony-drawl cowboys and colorful phrases like “Holy snake snot!” and “Great day in the morning!”, you might even think you hear the theme song to Bonanza or Rawhide playing in your head as you immerse yourself in Finn, Liberty, Maggie, and Blaze’s stories. You will for sure be smiling and swooning in no time!

Now, y’all know that I’m a big fan of happily ever afters, which is what I thought we had with Finn and Liberty in the prequel novella. Ahem. Julie Lessman, I’m looking at you. 😉 But, y’all – I gotta admit that the journey she took them on in Love’s Silver Lining made up for that little dismaying revelation in the book blurb. They might be seventeen years older, but one of them (at least) isn’t necessarily seventeen years wiser. Needless to say, they’ve got some ‘wrasslin to do in their own hearts – before God, first and foremost. And since I am a strong-willed firstborn who can be a little feisty when provoked, I needed those lessons that Liberty had to learn too. (Oops. I just ratted her out as the one that needed to do some more maturing, didn’t I? lol)

Which brings us to Maggie and Blaze and whew goodness just go ahead and read this whole book from the safety of your freezer. Julie Lessman’s tagline isn’t “Passion with a Purpose” for no reason.  Boy howdy do her characters have themselves some PASSION and sparks and fireworks. But always always always tucked between the sizzling kisses and neck nibblin’ is a parallel to the intensity with which our Savior longs for a relationship with us, to the dedicated pursuit of us that led Him to the cross, and to the ferocity with which He calls us home. And Maggie and Blaze’s friendship set on fire is one such parallel. I so loved how Lessman redeemed Blaze’s past, though it was a little disconcerting to discover one of my best friends plays an important role – as a saloon girl LOL.

Bottom Line: Saddle up for one doozy of a ride – from the opening scenes to the last, Love’s Silver Lining is packed with colorful characters, foot-stomping feistiness, and smokin’ hot kisses! It’s also packed with a solid message of redemption from the most broken pasts and of the fierce love our Savior has for each one of us. Lessman shines in this genre (as she does each one she writes in) and I cannot wait for more adventures with the gang at the Silver Lining Ranch!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4.5 stars / Holy frog spit, it’s fabulous!

KissingBook Level: 5 / FREEZER! FREEZER! HAS ANYONE SEEN MY FREEZER?!?

I haven’t had the pleasure of being able to read any of Julie’s books yet. She’s a new author to me, but I know that I’ll enjoy reading some of her books!

    • Hey, Steph, sounds like we need to remedy that right quick, young lady, so why don’t you mosey on over to Amazon to download the prequel novel to this series, FOR LOVE OF LIBERTY, which just happens to be FREE for the next 4-1/2 days.

Or if contemporaries are more your style, you can download the prequel novella to my contemporary Isle of Hope series, A Glimmer of Hope, absolutely FREE as well, so it doesn’t get any cheaper than that, darlin’! 😉

I have read this book and absolutely loved it. Not to mention I was one of the winners of a contest to have a character named after me or someone I chose. I chose my late father, Donald Raymond Turley, Sr. and she added him as the hotel manager. So heartwarming. Good luck everyone on this fabulous giveaway.

    • DEBBIE!!!

It was such an honor to include your father in my book, my friend, and getting to know you as well. How is your brother Don doing? He’s on my prayer hit list, so any updates appreciated.

      Hugs!!

I think I’ve read all of Julie’s books except this one. She has a very unique voice to her writing. I enjoy the romantic passion of the characters but also Julie’s passion for Jesus shines quite brightly in everything she writes. This combination sets her books apart from others. Thanks for the giveaway.

I love the clean passion in her stories. I love that I can’t and don’t feel a need to skip any words in her books. The characters grip me and I feel like they are my best friend by the end of the story. I walk around wondering why no one else is concerned about what happened in one of her stories.

      • LOL, Kerri, you are TOO CUTE!! I wonder the same thing! 😉 If winning were based on persistence (and it sometimes is), you would walk away with the prize, my sweet friend, so GOOD LUCK!!

        Hugs!!
