As part of the Celebrate Lit tour for The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, I’m pleased to welcome Debbie Kitterman to the blog today!

Debbie Kitterman is an author, a speaker, and the founder of Dare 2 Hear, a ministry that trains individuals to hear the voice of God. She travels to churches internationally and is the founder and teacher of d2htraining.com, an online course designed to equip the believer in releasing God’s heart. She is also an ordained Foursquare pastor, currently serving with her husband, John, as senior pastor of Restoration Church in Lacey, Washington. Learn more at www.debbiekitterman.com.

You can also connect with Debbie at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Deepen your relationship with God and embrace a life of encouragement by sharing God’s words with others.

When people think of prophecy, they often think of individuals in the Old Testament or certain personality-driven ministries today. They may think more about the prophet than the message.

But Jesus showed us God’s intention for prophecy by living in two-way communication with the Father and by embracing a lifestyle of encouraging others, changing lives in the process. We can do the same.

Clearing away the confusion about the prophetic gift today, pastor and ministry leader Debbie Kitterman reveals the good news about the gift of prophecy in this practical, powerful book: We are all prophetic because we all have direct access to God. Prophecy is an ordinary part of the Christian life. In fact, it is God’s way for us to encourage and strengthen the Body of Christ.

So open your ears to hear God and break out of your comfort zone to deliver His messages to those who need them most. Act now—His words can’t wait!

Hi Debbie! Welcome to the blog!

Debbie: Tea – never quite acquired the taste of black coffee.  My dad said if you can’t drink it black, you have no business drinking it, so I never did. LOL But I love my tea and will have an occasional Pumpkin Spice Latté when they are in season.

Carrie: I have never acquired the taste for either tea or coffee. And it really keeps me from feeling truly grown up. At 40. haha!

Debbie: Hallmark Channel – especially love all the Hallmark mysteries movies and seasonal ones too. But Netflix is close behind.

Carrie: Hallmark Mysteries!! I love them!

Debbie: Ocean!  I love to watch the endless beauty and raw power of the ocean. To me, oceans speak of God’s vastness and endless possibilities.  There is so much unknown or unseen about the ocean, which leaves much to discover.

Carrie: I feel exactly the same way at the ocean… but the mountains are still my happy place 🙂

Debbie: Print!  Most definitely, hands down – Print. I love to underline, highlight and know exactly where I am at in a book.

Carrie: I adore my print books! But the kindle does make things incredibly easy for traveling…

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Debbie: My super power would be gift-giving!  I love hunting for, finding and giving the perfect gift.

Carrie: Isn’t that the most fun?!? ♥

Q: Which books are ‘on your nightstand’?

Debbie: Oh boy, are you sure you want to know the pile of books that are on my night stand?  There’s a lot. Here you go:

  • Glory Carriers by Jennifer Eivaz (an early manuscript, I am reading to write an endorsement)
  • Guerilla Marketing for Writers Jay Conrad Levinson
  • Threads of Suspicion Dee Henderson
  • Reset by Bob Sorge
  • Holy Hustle by Crystal Stein
  • I Hear His Whisper by Brian Simmons
  • Spirit Led Heart by Susy Eller
  • Rooting for Rivals by Peter Greer & Chris Horst
  • 31 Proverbs to light your path – Liz Curtis-Higgs
  • Made Like Martha by Katie Reed
  • The Complete Guide to the Prayers of Jesus Janet McHenry
  • The Listening Heart Devotional by Judy Gordon Morrow
  • Poverty, Riches & Wealth Kris Vallatton
  • The Secrets of the Secret Place by Bob Sorge
  • The reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright
  • Silver Linings Debbie Macomber

Carrie: I spy some faves! Dee Henderson, Liz Curtis-Higgs, Jaime Jo Wright, and The Secrets of the Secret Place by Bob Sorge!

Q: Writing spaces are as diverse as authors and books. Where is your favorite space to write?

Debbie: So, I have several “favorite” writing spaces. Most of the time, I sit at my desk/writing area, (see picture below) especially when I am doing research, so I can spread out.  Other times, I sit on the couch (which reclines)  or a recliner chair with my laptop in my lap. If the weather is nice, I will go outside on the deck and be inspired by the beauty that surrounds me.

Carrie: What a lovely place to write!

Q: Did you outline your book ahead of time or write-by-the-seat-of-your-pants?

Debbie: Oh how I wish I would have outlined my book ahead of time, but live and learn. Right?  LOL When I started writing this book several years ago, I just started writing and chapters began forming. Then over time, others would naturally come together.  The hard part about writing “by-the-seat-of-your-pants” so to speak, is figuring out what goes where and how to make good transitions so everything flows well and seems cohesive as if I had outlined it.

Carrie: haha! That reminds me of how i would write term papers in high school … I would write the first draft and THEN do the outline. Shhh my teacher still doesn’t know 😉

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement?

Debbie: My heart is for everyone who reads my book to walk away with a deeper relationship with God, and a clearer understand that we are all called to live a lifestyle of encouragement, by using prophetic encouragement to change the world and lives of those around us.

Carrie: Oh how our world needs encouragement these days ♥

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂

Thanks for the chance! I prefer a print book too. 🙂 I have some books on my iPad but I rarely read them, it just isn’t the same.
