Firefighter Rand Nelson is tall and handsome and has literally walked through an inferno for Beatrice Wilcox. He’s a hero…and that’s exactly the problem. Beatrice knows all too well the risks of loving a man with a dangerous career. But when Rand’s report threatens her beloved children’s camp, Beatrice can’t refuse his offer of help…even though she knows they’re both playing with fire.

I always love a visit to Indian Lake – such a charming town with great characters! This latest installment adds a camp director with a big heart and the swoony firefighter who rescues her in more ways than one.

This book grabbed my attention right from the beginning, with a raging forest fire headed straight for Beatrice’s camp for kids & two of the little boys out in the middle of the danger. Beatrice is extremely brave and courageous when it comes to her camp kids (though perhaps not matters of the heart), as is Rand who heads in after her and the boys.

Those little boys  – Chris and Eli – totally captured my heart, as did all the kids at Beatrice’s beloved camp, but especially these two. Their background is traumatic and their future looks bleak, without divine intervention. And yet their little hearts have so much love to give and receive. Watching their journey through the book was even more enjoyable to me than the romance – and that’s saying a lot 😉

Speaking of the romance, though, Rand and Beatrice’s first kiss completely melted me – and it’s not even a typical kiss. I won’t say more because you need to read it for yourself, except to say that it was such a emotionally charged moment and so well-written that it was tangible.

Bottom Line: A sweet story that fits in perfectly with the Indian Lake universe, Rescued by the Firefighter reminds us of the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds. Layered characters that are genuinely likable, a charming setting, and great romantic tension – all of these elements make this a great choice for a cozy weekend read!
