Home is meant to be a place to belong. A place to gather and connect. A place of beauty. A place to restore your soul. Creating a restored home—the kind that you and your loved ones want to return to again and again—is as much about making everyone who enters feel cared for and comfortable as it is about creating a beautiful space.
In Restoration House, home decor and lifestyle guide Kennesha Buycks of Restoration House blog shows you how to embrace your home and your story as you create mindful spaces that give life to you, your loved ones, and all who enter.
With gorgeous photography and pages of practical tips for curating and decorating your home (even on a small budget) and welcoming others, Restoration House will help you make purposeful design decisions as you create renewing spaces for you to enjoy with family and friends.
Whether you live in your dream house or you’re still dreaming about it, you can feel at home in the home you have.
Hi Kennesha! Welcome to the blog!
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Kennesha: My superpower would be telepathy. I always think I know what others are thinking, but I’d actually love to REALLY know. But not all the time, perhaps. I’d want to be able to control whose mind I am able to read and when.
Carrie: Yes, I think that control would be important. There are some people whose minds I do NOT want to read lol
Q: Tell me some good books you’ve read recently.
Kennesha: The Color of Compromise by Jemar Tisby, Brave Love by Lisa Leonard, Becoming by Michelle Obama and Dream with Me by Dr. John Perkins
Carrie: Oh those are great picks!
Q: What do you enjoy most about writing?
Kennesha: I love the art of writing and how it provides a beautiful escape to places in my mind that go untapped every day. I have found it’s the only way I am comfortable truly expressing my heart. Writing allows me to heal in a way speaking with a therapist or other activities doesn’t fulfill.
Carrie: Beautifully expressed ♥
Q: Why is the theme of Restoration House important to you?
Kennesha: It’s important because the message is bigger than me. For me, it was imperative that everyone be able to benefit from my book’s message no matter their religious background or belief system.
Carrie: “the message is bigger than me” – yes!
Q: What is something that surprised you the most while researching/writing this book?
Kennesha: I did not do any research when I wrote my book, since over half of it is my personal story. I think the thing that is most surprising for me is how healing it was to revisit some of those stories and recall the goodness of God in it all. It was overwhelming at times to “see” Him in places I’d never seen Him in my life before and it became – and still is – a constant reminder that He sees me, knows me and continues to write my story.
Carrie: He is so kind to us, isn’t He? And He is the Great Storyteller.
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Restoration House?
Kennesha: I would like readers to know there is always more. In the midst of what may seem like some of the darkest seasons of your life, He is there. He wants to use your life and your home as means to heal and restore what is broken in you, and ultimately in others around you. He wants to do that in and through each and every one of us.
Carrie: Amen. So beautiful.
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Kennesha: Hopefully some rest! As I’ve prepared for this release, the last couple of months have been full. It’s been full, fun and good but I am looking forward to taking a bit of a break and reconnecting in a more deep and meaningful way with my husband and kids.
