What am I going to do, God? Who am I?

Charlotte Hallaway needs to come to terms with her father’s death. He had been her only family, and she wasn’t handling her grief well. It was just supposed to be a few weeks of peace and quiet to process it all, but then she saw them-a drug deal and a murder within seconds of each other.

And they saw her.

Now running for her life, Charlotte boards a bus to escape her pursuers and wakes up the next morning in the woods of Jennings, Georgia, without a memory of how she got there or of who she is. All she knows is an underlying fear she can’t seem to shake.

When two hunters find her battered and scared, can she put aside the clear confusion she’s experiencing to trust them? She wants to trust them, especially Nicholas, but fear is holding her back. Trust is incredibly hard when one is so clearly confused. Could it be he and his friend are not who they claim to be?

Who are they really . . . and who is she?

Hi Kathy! Welcome to the blog!

Kathy: Audiobooks, when I am traveling alone. If it’s a good story, the time passes quickly and I find myself wishing the trip was longer so I could finish the book. Sometimes an extra turn here or there is required. Hehe!

Carrie: my husband is the same way!

Kathy: Over, of course! Is there really another option?

Carrie: Yes there is … the correct option šŸ˜‰

Kathy: Coke! Coke! Coke! I drink two beverages – water and Coke. Sad, I know, but oh, so good.

Carrie: I totally relate … diet coke is my beverage of choice (and NO diet pepsi is NOT okay haha) But I’m trying to be better at water. Trying. lol.

Kathy: The mountains are very near and dear to my heart. I grew up visiting them once or twice a month. Those visits created long-lasting, beautiful family memories.

Carrie: My blog followers hear me say often that the mountains are my happy place ♄

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Kathy: LOL! My sniffer is my superpower. Most flowery smells give me a headache, so my poor children get to finally go nuts with their soaps and lotions when I am away. šŸ˜‰

Carrie: hahaha!

Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?Ā

Kathy: Grover, from The Monster at the End of this Book (starring lovable, furry old Grover) was and still is one of my all-time favorite characters. What’s not to like? He’s blue, furry, and adorably funny.

Carrie: Oh my goodness! You have just won my heart forever! i LOVE that book so much.

Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?Ā

Kathy: Haha! I guess the mom in me would be seen most clearly. Hand sanitizer, medicine, anti-itch cream, topical antibiotic cream, bandages, and gum does a mother’s purse make. šŸ˜‰

Carrie: LOL! When each of my nieces and nephews were born, the first time I held them I promised to always have gum a la Monica on Friends. So far none of them have asked me for gum, but when they do I’m ready!! šŸ˜›

Q: What surprised you about your book or your characters as you wrote Clear Confusion?Ā

Kathy: The characters tend to take on a life of their own. I have ideas for each personality but as the story unfolds, the personalities deepen and sometimes change altogether. It’s almost humorous to read the whole story from beginning to end for the first time. I’m often surprised to read something I’d completely forgotten I’d written.

Carrie: I have heard that from many an author and it fascinates me!

Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in your book?Ā

Kathy: Yes! My grandfather, who dealt with Alzheimer’s, used to tear the tip of the straw paper off and blow the rest of it at our faces when we were least expecting it. Always made us laugh – the deep, belly kind of laugh. I added that experience into a scene that needed … a little laughter.

Carrie: awww I love that!

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Clear Confusion?

Kathy: To know, truly know, that God is always there and always trustworthy, even if we don’t understand anything at all. When we are afraid, when we are nervous, when we are happy or sad or angry or lonely or even clearly confused, we can trust in Him. Psalm 56:3

Carrie: YES. He is so faithful…

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! šŸ™‚ Before we say goodbye for today, tell us whatā€˜s coming up next for you.

Kathy: Clear Confusion is scheduled to release July 1st. I am quite excited about this story. It follows Charlotte Hallaway on her journey as a grieving daughter to an unexpected murder witness to waking in a strange place with no memory. She befriends others, fears for her life, finds love, and learns to turn her circumstances and their outcomes over to the Lord. There’s a little bit of everything for each type of reader.

Thanks so much for having me. I’ve enjoyed hanging out with you. šŸ˜‰

Carrie: I’ve enjoyed hanging out with you too! Let’s do it again sometime šŸ™‚

I love a good suspense so that aspect interests me as well as the loss of memory adds an extra layer. Oh, and I grew up in south Georgia so that is another plus. Thank you for the giveaway and interview.

  2. Paula Shreckhise

I want to find out how Charlotte came to the place she was found in the woods and of course the rest of the story!
My Daddy used to do the straw trick.

  3. Pam Lunsford

The mystery of it. She sees a murder, gets on a bus then she in the woods with no memory. WOW! What is going on, how did she loose her memory and who can she truly trust. I also like that it’s hunters who have found because that would be scary too. I’m really interested in this book. New author to me also.

  4. AmyJo M.

I love a good mystery, especially when it involves some type of memory loss. Thanks for offering the giveaway!

  5. Melissa Andres

The story concept sounds really good. And I love the cover! How interesting! Looking forward to reading this one!

  6. Janice Moore

To be compared to my favorite authors is high praise, indeed! I love Christian suspense books, and to have someone with amnesia makes me wish I had the book in my hands right now! I cannot wait to read it! Thanks for a wonderful interview!
