Hi friends! Recently I had the privilege of sitting down to chat with two of my fave people – the Story Nerds!! (aka authors Jessica Kate & Hannah Davis) Have you discovered this fun podcast yet? If not, you’re missing out!

The Storynerds podcast is available on your favorite podcast platform (Spotify, Apple podcasts, etc.), or at

Plus you can participate in the nerdy conversation on Facebook at

On this newest episode of their podcast we chatted about some upcoming reads we’re super excited about… but of course one podcast could not contain our enthusiasm. So (drum roll please) WELCOME TO THE BONUS ROUND!

Hey everyone! I’m Jessica Kate,

And I’m Hannah Davis!

Together, we host the StoryNerds podcast, where two Christian romance authors and their bookish guests (including the fabulous Carrie Schmidt) nerd out over books, movies and TV.

We thought we’d do the blog post the way we do everything else—as a conversation where we nerd out over fiction. ?

We recorded an episode with Carrie as a guest (available here: where we gush over the books we’re most looking forward to. Of course, we have WAY too many to cover in the podcast, so this is our BONUS ROUND! Hannah, what’s on your list?

In the podcast, I talked about a reboot coming out on Hulu in July that I’m so looking forward to: Veronica Mars! I love the Nancy Drew meets noir style of the show, and I’m a big fan of Kristen Bell’s snark and her tough-girl private investigator ways. I also mentioned how I’m DYING TO FINALLY READ The Killing Tide by Dani Pettrey (I literally was the first one on the pre-order list – months ago). And, while I love a good story and plot, I also love a good action movie just for the cool stunts, and Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw comes out in August!

With that being said, there were so many books I didn’t get the chance to mention!
Tari Faris’s You Belong With Me is one of them, which comes out in September! (Not gonna lie, the title just makes me belt out Taylor Swift’s song of the same name, too.) Here’s the blurb, because you definitely need to put this on your list:

Realtor Hannah Thornton has many talents. Unfortunately, selling houses in the town where her family name is practically poison isn’t one of them. When a business tycoon determines to raze historic homes in the small town of Heritage, Michigan, and replace them with a strip mall, Hannah resolves to stop him. She sets about helping Heritage win a restoration grant that will put the town back on the map–and hopefully finally repay the financial debt Hannah’s mother caused the town. But at first no one supports her efforts—not even her best friend, Luke.

Luke Johnson may have grown up in Heritage, but as a foster kid he never truly felt as if he belonged. Now he has a chance to score a job as assistant fire chief and earn his place in the town. But when the interview process and Hannah’s restoration project start unearthing things from his past, Luke must decide if belonging is worth the pain of being honest about who he is–and who he was.

Jess, what about you?

In the podcast I covered Melissa Ferguson’s The Dating Charade, and Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners. But I’ve saved my favorite for this post: Jenny B Jones’s Fanatically In Trouble, book #3 in the Enchanted Events series.

In this series, Paisley is a former teen popstar who has inherited a wedding planning business in her hometown. In addition to learning the ropes on the business and dealing with her hunky overprotective neighbor Beau, Paisley has people die around her. A lot. And she or someone she cares about is often implicated, so it’s up to this pop star and her ex-CIA granny to find out the truth.

How oh how does Jenny reach into my brain, find the things I love most and then put them into books??? Let me give you a quick list of why this series is amazing:

  1. BEAU BEAU BEAU BEAU BEAU BEAU BEAU – tragic hero, next-door-neighbor to our heroine, and big strong manly protector of former-pop-stars-turned-sleuths
  2. The ex-CIA granny and auntie who are forever using highly classified tech to do highly illegal things with such glee that you can’t help but giggle
  3. The granny’s steamy romance book club – hilarious!
  4. Paisley may be a former pop star, but she’s got the down-to-earth attitude of a girl next door and the humility that comes from your career peaking at seventeen.

I ADORE books that combine humor, romance and mystery (kinda like the book version of Castle), and Jenny’s sense of humor has always ticked my funny bone.

I devoured books 1 and 2 and all I can say is HURRY UP JENNY I NEED THE NEXT ONE!

Carrie, what’s on your list?

Can I just interject here that limiting me to only THREE titles for the podcast was just unfair. I mean… my Top Ten Tuesday posts are usually more like Top Twenty Tuesday. And then only ONE extra title in the bonus round? Y’all are killing me 😉

In the podcast I shared my excitement for a debut novel from an author – you may have heard of her, ladies – (another drum roll for maximum effect) … JESSICA KATE!!! <cue the glorious fanfare and crowd cheering>  Her upcoming romcom Love and Other Mistakes releases July 30th and I. Cannot. Wait. That cover, y’all. Plus I’ve read her novella The Kiss Dare (which you can get FREE by signing up for her newsletter!) and the delightful sass is strong with this one. Have I mentioned I can’t wait?!? I also talked about Melanie Dobson’s new split-time novel Memories of Glass (because Hidden Among the Stars UNDID me and all her books are 5 star reads for me), and you’ll have to listen to the podcast to find out what my other book is…

The book I’ve saved for this post is also a split-time novel, and it’s the much-awaited next book in Sarah Monzon’s Carrington Family Romance series – With You Here! If you haven’t met the Carrington Family yet, you are in for a treat 🙂 Yummy brothers (Trent, Michael, and Adam). Riveting stories in both the present and past timelines. Layered characters who will capture your heart (again, in both timelines). Sweet messages of redemption and grace. Swoony kisses.

With You Here is Amber Carrington’s story & it promises to be just as captivating as her brothers’ stories! Here’s the blurb…

Holy Roman Empire, 1527
In the wake of Martin Luther’s religious reforms, Princess Christyne von Heidelbraum is compelled by her sense of duty to help ease the burden of her people. When she stumbles upon a dying man in the woods, she vows to aid him—even when she discovers the arrow shot in his back was put there by a heretic hunter. With both her physical and spiritual well-being in danger, she must choose between conscience or adhering to the laws of the Empire.

Present Day
Doubting her calling to become a hospital chaplain, Amber Carrington takes time off from her theology studies to volunteer with refugees in Germany. Working with children, making a difference, reconnecting with the conviction that once drove her—these were her expectations. An instant attraction to a professional soccer player wasn’t a part of the plan…and she can’t let him distract her from her purpose.

As a new Christian, Seth Marshall is determined to put his popularity as a world-renowned footballer to good use. Unfortunately, old habits and public opinions are hard to overcome. When he falls hard and fast for Amber Carrington, his former life—and her no-dating policy—may block his perfect shot for the woman he loves.

Y’all. She had me at ‘Holy Roman Empire’ and it just got better from there!

Somebody else jump back in here before I keep going with about 10 more books (at least) that I’m excited about 😉

Thanks so much for joining us on our ‘bonus round’ everyone, and we hope you head over to the podcast and our Facebook page to tune in and nerd out!

But before you go, tell us in the comments—what upcoming reads are you most looking forward to?

Australian author Jessica Kate is obsessed with sassy romances.

She packs her novels with love, hate, and everything in between—and then nerds out over her favorite books, movies and TV in the StoryNerds podcast. When she’s not writing or discussing fiction, she’s hunting the world for the greatest pasta in existence.

Her debut novel Love and Other Mistakes releases July 2019, while A Girl’s Guide to the Outback hits shelves in January 2020.

Receive her sassy short The Kiss Dare (endorsed by Carrie Booth Schmidt!) FREE when you sign up for her newsletter at
