Welcome to the Blog Blitz for The Mosaic Collection, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours! Today I am delighted to welcome Eleanor Bertin to the blog to chat about her cornerstone message for her The Mosaic Collection novel Unbound, which releases on September 4, 2019.

For His glory…
The Mosaic Collection is an international community of women authors who use faith-based fiction to touch hearts with the good news that Christ’s finished work on the cross has made us one family, and to nurture affection for the people God has placed within our circles of influence, so that the grace and glory of God may become visible and personal to everyone we meet.

…and our good
We are sisters, a beautiful mosaic united by the love of God through the blood of Christ. We have experienced the redemptive, restorative power of God’s grace in our marriages and families, and we believe our God is able to heal, restore and redeem our brokenness. His love fills us with the courage to persevere, and to offer others a Christ-like compassion that is full of His wisdom and grace.

In a fit of optimism at age eleven, Eleanor Bertin began her first novel by numbering a stack of 100 pages. Two of them got filled with words. Lifelines, her first completed novel, was published in 2016, followed by Pall of Silence in 2017, a memoir about her late son Paul.

She holds a college diploma in Communications and worked in agriculture journalism until the birth of her first child. The family eventually grew to include one daughter and six sons (the youngest with Down syndrome) whom she home-educated for 25 years.

Eleanor lives with her husband and youngest son, Timothy, amidst the ongoing renovation of a century home in central Alberta where she reads, writes, sweeps up construction rubble and blogs about a sometimes elusive contentment at

SERIES: The Mosaic Collection
Inspirational Women’s Fiction/Romance
RELEASE DATE: September 4, 2019

Three deaths, three widows, and the ties that bind.

Ruthie Adrian loves ranch live with her handsome husband, Mac, and his family. But her hopes for a child dissolve when Mac, his brother and his father are killed in a crash. Added to their heartbreak, Ruthie and her mother-in-law, Naomi, now face rejection by her sister-in-law O’Dell, and impossible barriers as they try to protect their land.

Jake, a self-styled prophet, steps up with a bizarre offer. A God-send or a trap? With raw grief, unexpected humor, and life-giving grace, Unbound is a modern twist on a timeless tale of the unique bond between two widows, who harbour a few secrets of their own.

My Cornerstone Message From The Collection

In Unbound, the two main characters are burdened by the guilt of past sins. They’re bound by their sense of needing to make up for those sins, yet the sure knowledge that their efforts are never enough mires them in a life of fear. Each of them, in the providential ways that God deems best, finds freedom from their bonds through a discovery of God’s grace.

In the biblical story, the widows Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi are destitute. They hit upon an idea to earn food through Ruth’s work in the local grain harvest. “Then she left, and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers. And she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech [her relative].” (Ruth 2:3) The Hebrew for my italics in the verse is literally, “she chanced to chance upon.” That repetition is ironic because we know there is no such thing as “chance” with God as King of all the earth. “All things come to us, not by chance, but from His fatherly hand,” we’re told in the Heidelberg catechism.

Ruthie and Naomi only find freedom when they find God’s grace.

A Deeper Dive into My Cornerstone Message

The God I love has shown His kindness to me time after time in providing for our family for nearly four decades. With a large family on one income, we saw His providential care for us in the smallest of details, from custom-made draperies at a bargain price, to needed employment, to the impossible dream of owning a home in the country.

Learning to trust Him in the daily things of life has been practice for trusting Him in the frightening, the disappointing, the painful, and the tragic. In 2012, our 18-year-old son Paul was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

In confusion and grief, in agony and loss, I learned that Jesus is a shelter in the storm. I cling to the promises in scripture because He has proved ever-faithful. His truth holds fast, His love holds me and His grace never fails.
