She’s not home for keeps
Unless he proves first love is forever
Bluestone River is a minefield of memories for Mike Abbot—all involving Ruby Driscoll. Twenty years after scandal divided them, they’re both back in their hometown. Ruby’s visit is strictly temporary. But as she uses her trauma expertise to help his vulnerable son, Mike faces what his heart has always known. Ruby’s still his one and only. This time, can he convince her to stay?
“Once upon a time, the old bridge was my favorite place in town.”
A Family for Jason is everything you want the first book in a new series to be. You’ll care about the characters – both main and supporting – and you’ll become invested in this struggling town and all the possibilities for future books. A little humor, a lot of heart, and some healing too all make for an engaging read from start to finish.
Ruby and Mike have a past that could have been a great future, had a mutually-shared tragedy not driven them apart. Coming home again is bittersweet for both, and running into each other unexpectedly is even more so. I loved these two – separately and together – their shared memories and past love for one another add even more meaningful layers to their present interactions, too. And sweet Jason, Mike’s son who knows all too well about life-changing trauma at his young age. Jason doesn’t need words to completely capture Ruby’s heart – or yours – and his friendship with Peach will swell your heart 10 sizes if you’ve ever been unconditionally loved by a dog.
“Is your Peach a therapy dog?” Mike asked.
Ruby seemed confused at first, but then her expression softened.
“Well, not professionally. It’s more like a hobby with her.”
Bottom Line: A Family For Jason is a great start to a new series! The author does a fabulous job of setting the scene & introducing pivotal characters to lay a foundation for future books. Jason will have your heart in no time & you’ll ache along with him and Mike – as well as for all the time Mike and Ruby lost. A sweet second chance romance! (And oh please tell me that Emma’s story is coming up!!)
