RELEASE DATE: August 20, 2019
Research scientist Caitlyn Lindsey is convinced that someone is taking out her team one by one. First, a friend and research partner was killed in a home invasion. Three months ago, her boss died in a suspicious car accident. Four days ago, another partner supposedly committed suicide. And now Caitlyn herself has miraculously survived a hit-and-run. Afraid for her life with nowhere to turn, she reaches out to one of the victim’s husbands, Detective Josh Solomon.
Though initially skeptical about Caitlyn’s theory, Josh soon realizes that the attack that took his wife’s life was anything but random. Now the two of them must discover the truth about who is after Caitlyn’s team–and what their end game is–before it’s too late.
In this nail-biting thriller, award-winning author Lisa Harris will have you believing that there’s no such thing as random.
Hi Lisa! Welcome to the blog!
Lisa: Neither, not a soda drinker. 🙂
Carrie: I wish I could say that – I’m trying to like water. lol
Lisa: I love soup, especially homemade in the winter.
Carrie: mmm yes!
Lisa: Love both, but at the moment, board games. My family and I are in the middle of a Ticket to Ride phase. So much fun!
Carrie: Ticket to Ride is one of our faves too!
Lisa: I love print books, but ebooks are so practical when the nearest bookstore is ten plus hours away!
Carrie: Yes, yes they would be lol
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Lisa: I would definitely want to fly. Watching birds soar above me looks so peaceful and elegant.
Carrie: I agree – as long as I am safely inside watching them #birdphobia
Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?
Lisa: I loved Karana from Island of the Blue Dolphins. It was one of my favorite books growing up that I read and reread!
Carrie: You know… I don’t think I’ve ever read that book, other than snippets. I need to make that a priority.
Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?
Lisa: Hmmm. . .I’m looking at my purse and what comes to mind is that I’m prepared. (For what, I’m not sure. 🙂 ) There is paper and pen, of course, for those writing brainstorms. Lots of pens actually. Hand sanitizer, lotion, Vaseline and lipstick. Wallet, tissues, and the receipts I need to give my husband. My kindle, earphones, eye mask, and ear plugs from the last time I flew. A sewing kit, Tylenol, unscented baby wipes, and a small Bible.
Carrie: Love it!
Q: Do you have the whole plot outlined before you startwriting, or do you let the characters dictate what comes next?
Lisa: I always plot out my stories as much as I can before I write. Otherwise I simply sit and stare at the screen. My husband can’t understand this, but even with careful planning, my characters still manage to surprise me, scare me, and make me cry!
Carrie: I confess I don’t really understand it either but I find it so fascinating!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Deadly Intentions?
Lisa: This book was very personal for me to write, as I wanted to explore faith when things go very wrong. How God is there in the pain, and can redeem even the darkest of circumstances. That isn’t always easy to see in the midst of pain, but He is still there. I love what Elizabeth Elliot had to say about pain.
“I am not a theologian or a scholar, but I am very aware of the fact that pain is necessary to all of us. In my own life, I think I can honestly say that out of the deepest pain has come the strongest conviction of the presence of God and the love of God.” Elizabeth Elliot
That’s what I want to experience in my own life.
Carrie: That’s so true – often hard to see until hindsight, like you said, but so very true.
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Lisa: Thank you so much for having me on your blog! As for right now, I’m currently finishing up another stand-alone suspense novel for Revell that comes out spring 2020 (Seems crazy to write 2020!) that I’m super excited about!
Carrie: yay!!! Can’t wait!
