HAPPY RELEASE DAY to Joy Avery Melville & Meant For Her! Please join me in welcoming Joy to the blog today!

Joy Avery Melville’s heart’s desire is to be the author God has called her to be by sharing Him with readers in such a way they long to have a deeply committed personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord.

Fully intending to write Historical Romance—had in fact— she didn’t want to deviate from that. God had different plans for that ‘call’ He’d made on her life back in 1967. A mere eighth grader at the time, she had no clue about the topics she’d be drawn to write about.

Surrendering to the genre God placed on her heart has given Joy new insight into the hearts and lives of those who too often hurt in silence.

The settings of Joy’s books are near where she lives in Schoolcraft, Michigan with her husband of nearly 46 years and their eleven-month-old Yorkie pup, Is-A-Bella Bindi, (Is-a-beautiful little girl) who thinks she’s a much larger breed with tomboy tendencies.

Joy loves to hear from readers. She can be contacted through her website, blog, Facebook, or by email, and she also has a presence on Twitter and Pinterest.

Had it all truly been ~ MEANT FOR HER?

Kidnapped, raped, brutally beaten, and left for dead, Candi Reynolds becomes a prisoner of fear. Faced also with the impact of the unexpected break-up with her fiancé, and an unwanted pregnancy resulting from the attacks, she believes God has forsaken her. Choosing to move back to the Michigan horse farm, owned by her older brother, Dr. Cam Reynolds, Candi essentially goes into seclusion.

Dr. Patrick (Mack) MacKevon, long-time friend of Cam’s, watches from the sidelines at the farm, w here his horses are stabled, while Candi struggles to regain a sense of normalcy. His own big-brother tendencies develop into a much deeper emotion over the months he prays for her.

Is it possible for Candi to put all of the pain and trauma behind her and renew her former relationship with the Lord? Will she allow her heart to open enough to discover authentic love, while making decisions of victory on her personal journey to joy?

Hi Joy! Welcome to the blog!

Joy: Winter

Carrie: I knew I liked you! 🙂

Joy: Dogs

Carrie: Good answer!

Joy: Music

Carrie: We are basically the same person lol

Joy: Print

Carrie: I have always said ‘print’ too but lately I’ve been leaning more toward ebooks for self-preservation purposes (my print books are threatening to take over) LOL

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Joy: BAKING with yeast.

Carrie: Yum! I think I need to come visit 😉

Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?

Joy: Christian fiction section

Carrie: My fave too!

Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?

Joy: It is the most organized thing about me

Carrie: hahaha! that could be good or bad 😛

Q: What surprised you about Meant For Her or your characters as you wrote their story?

Joy:  THE EMOTION IN MY MEN CHARACTERS – Not always displayed the same – but – the depth was amazing in each.

Carrie: I always love it when novels delve into the man’s emotions!

Q: Do you have the whole plot outlined before you start writing, or do you let the characters dictate what comes next?

Joy: My characters dictate the movement of the story.

Carrie: Hopefully they behave themselves 😉

Q:What is one of your favorite quotes from Meant For Her & why do you love it?

Joy: This is a difficult one to answer – Most of Mack’s quotes are pretty special to me – BUT – Jaime’s response about her prayer for a horse touched me beyond belief – she wrote her own portion in MEANT FOR HER I just let her rip – I’m including both Mack’s question – and Jaime’s answer –

“What precisely is it ye’d be askin’ God to give ye? What I mean to say is what kind of horse would ye be thinkin’ of gettin’ yerself, young lady?”

She stared him in the eye. “A live one.” No twitch in her pert face to indicate anything but an honest answer.

I did NOT plan this part of the story – Jaime was not going to be much more than the little girl who found Candi when she’d been left to die… – GOD USED JAIME IN MY LIFE and IN THE STORY – unwavering trust!

Carrie: I love it when characters take on a life of their own – those are usually my favorite ones…

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Joy: At this point – I believe God is leading me to release my first novel in my Operation Return To Peace Series (wounded warrior series) next – then I’ll be getting KEPT FOR HER book 2 in this series ready to publish.

    • Thank you so very much, Sharee Stover – as of this am – Jerry (my hubs) held the FIRST ordered copy of the paperback in his hands – I know that because he was waiting to hit BUY NOW as soon as the book went LIVE on
I’m hoping to hear how you like the story!

  1. I’m interested in reading this story because Joy and I have prayed and cheered for each other in ACFW’s Novel Track e-mail loop. She is such a prayer warrior, and I’m so excited for what God is going to do with this story!

    • Thank you, Erin!
Those prayers and your encouragement kept me going with God’s word to me for 2019 – PERSEVERANCE – He knew just how much I’d need to keep from caving under pressure.

    • I can hardly wait to hear how you like/dislike the story, Pat.
I know it’s not going to be for EVERYONE – but – I’ve prayed long and hard that it touches those hearts God INTENDS It for also!

  2. Sherri G

I can’t even imagine what it must be like to live with the after-effects of this type of attack. I’m curious to see how the author handles it.

    • Lori Byrd,
Candi has a favorite horse in MEANT FOR HER, Jasper is a source of comfort, as is her work in the stable with some of the others.
I hope you get a chance to read Candi’s story!

  3. Debra Branigan

I am interested because it sounds romantic, inspirational and suspenseful at times…all in all a good read.
