MEMORIES AND MURDER
SERIES:
Tourist Trap Mystery #10
GENRE: Cozy Mystery
PUBLISHER: Kensington
RELEASE DATE: November 12, 2019
PAGES: 212

It’s October in South Cove, California, and the locals in the quaint resort seem to be happily pairing off in the lull before the holidays. Everyone, that is, except for Jill Gardner’s elderly aunt, who just dumped her besotted fiancé—and she won’t say why.

When Jill hosts a talk at Coffee, Books, and More on the topic of elder abuse, all that’s really on her mind is lunch. But the topic hits close to home when she discovers Aunt Jackie has been getting mysterious calls. Jill’s certain the caller is a con artist, of course, but her feisty aunt claims to understand this, though she’s still shaken—and Harrold’s still heartbroken. Who’s behind the scam and why was her aunt targeted? When a volunteer from the Senior Project is found murdered, Jill’s detective boyfriend is on the case—and it soon becomes clear no one is safe when a caller from beyond becomes a killer in their midst.

Other Books In This Series

Lynn Cahoon’s Tourist Trap Mystery series was the first cozy mystery series I fell in love with, so new visits to South Cove and Jill’s Coffee, Books & More are always top of my TBR list!

I love the protagonist Jill and her dog Emma – everyone should have a dog like Emma & she brings a lot of subtle humor & sweetness into the stories. Memories and Murder is a unique installment in this series in that, this time, Jill is (mostly) not investigating the same crime that her hunky detective boyfriend Greg is. She’s got her hands full trying to figure out who’s scamming Aunt Jackie, and I love seeing how her friends and employees band together to help out. That’s one of my favorite things about the whole series, honestly – the community Jill has built around her & they rally behind each other when needed. Family can definitely be what you make it, and Jill proves that over and over again. The fact that this community of main & supporting characters are all layered and thoroughly developed is icing on the cake.

Cahoon’s mysteries are always a reading adventure that ropes you in and doesn’t let go until whodunit – and why – is revealed. The dual mysteries unfolding in Memories and Murder are cleverly-plotted (as expected – this is Lynn Cahoon, after all) with some unexpected twists and turns that keep you on your reading toes. I wasn’t sure if they were connected or not – nor how many other mysteries might pop up before the end of the book.

Bottom Line: A visit to South Cove & Lynn Cahoon’s delightful Tourist Trap mysteries is always a good idea. Memories and Murder is no exception. The two concurrent mysteries in this book are equally intriguing, and I loved trying to figure out who was behind them. Cahoon excels at characters and setting, as well as plot, and Memories and Murder is a prime example. A great choice for this weekend’s reading list!!

(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.)

My Rating: 4.5 stars / love it!
