Happy Sunday! Please join me in welcoming Delaina Netherland Smiley to the blog today to chat about her Christmas novella One More Santa!
Delaina Netherland Smiley is an East Texas native, who lives in the country with her husband and three fun teenagers/young adult children. She’s a business coach and trainer by day, a writer by night, and a hobby photographer whenever she gets the chance. Her favorite genre of books is, of course, romance (faith-based, military, contemporary and historical), but her music playlist is oddly eclectic (at least, according to her children). She loves to go fishing at the lake and she can’t get enough of watching her children excel in their own varied talents and ambitions. She also enjoys being an aunt to three handsome boys and loves time spent with her tight-knit family, who serve up all the creative inspiration she could ever need.
ONE MORE SANTA
GENRE: Inspirational Christmas Romance
PUBLISHER: Anaiah Press
RELEASE DATE: November 6, 2019
Cassie McWilliams is completely committed to her work as a professional sports photographer, president of The Santa House Women’s Charity, and helping her family in their hometown diner, which leaves no time for romance—and that’s perfectly fine with Cassie. She has no interest in trying to squeeze dating into her busy schedule.
Officer Talent Marshall is a new recruit to the police force and the newest bachelor in town. All he wants to do is start over, away from the shadows of his past, but when he meets the beautiful and smart Cassie, his priorities suddenly change. And when he’s assigned to security detail for The Santa House, he’s one step closer to getting exactly what he wants.
As Christmas approaches, their attraction grows, but when Talent is called to help find a
missing child, their relationship is threatened by raging waters, leaving Cassie to realize
one very important thing: She doesn’t want one more Santa—a precious gift her late
father gave her mother every year before he passed—she wants more chance with

Hi Delaina! Welcome to the blog!
Delaina: I think cats are adorable, but I’m allergic to them. So we have an English bulldog and a beagle mix. I also have two granddogs so my house is full right now.
Carrie: Awww yay for dogs! (My husband is cat-allergic too)
Delaina: I’m a Hallmark junkie – especially this time of year! I love, love, love the Christmas movies!
Carrie: yes! me too! (Although I do get a tad grumpy that they take my mysteries away on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel during November & December lol)
Delaina: I enjoy music – don’t get me wrong, but I really got into audiobooks this year because I was traveling so much. I really like it when authors I follow on podcasts read their books aloud. I feel like I know them.
Carrie: I have a ‘limited engagement’ relationship with audiobooks – i can only tolerate them for so long before I get annoyed at the slowness lol. Music is my go-to.
Delaina: Neither. I’m a Dr. Pepper girl.
Carrie: At least you didn’t say Pepsi 😉
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Delaina: To be able to look into the future and be able to wear the right clothes for the right weather, but this time of year, that’s impossible in Texas.
Carrie: haha! that would be a very handy skill to have!
Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?
Delaina: The self-improvement section (and then the romance section). You have to love yourself first, right? Just kidding. But I do like books that inspire me to be a better version of myself.
Carrie: There always so much still to be learned, isn’t there?
Q: If I asked your characters to describe YOU as an author, what would they say?
Delaina: She’s a crier. We can’t get through an emotional scene without her stopping to wipe tears away or her husband asking her if something is really wrong. She’s entirely too attached to our story and sometimes requires chocolate to finish our dialogue.
Carrie: haha! Chocolate is always a good idea 🙂
Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing One More Santa, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?
Delaina: I wrote the first five chapters before I stopped to outline the rest. It didn’t always go according to outline, of course, but it gave me a target anyway.
Carrie: i like that strategy!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from One More Santa?
Delaina: That it is possible to simply let God plant the right person in your life. You don’t have to search the world or make dating your focus in life. You just need to concentrate on what you’re doing and pray that the person who comes along will be excited to walk beside you.
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Delaina: I’m revising a manuscript and I’ve started a new story. My goal is five more books in 2020, which sounds lofty, but I have two manuscripts already completed so I have a head start. Praying God gives me more fun ideas to entertain my readers with!
Carrie: wow!! yay!
