today’s book: deck the shelves by toni shiloh
Christmas is only 14 days away according to Google (if we get to Dec 25th and we have days left over, blame Google, not me lol.), BUT now ’tis the season when I start craving cozy Christmas reads. (Okay – I crave them all year round but now’s when I can get away with talking about them LOL) This year I’m continuing my annual blog series spotlighting new and recently-released Christmas reads, and I’m super excited! Christmas books make me happy!
So… snuggle in, grab your fave hot beverage and comfiest blanket, turn on some Christmas tunes and start your own bookish Christmas list! Oh… and did I mention there are GIVEAWAYS with EACH POST in this series??!! (Because authors are awesome!)
Today’s featured book is a delightfully bookish contemporary romance novella + the author shares some of her Pinterest inspiration board for Deck the Shelves!
DECK THE SHELVES
SERIES: Heartfalls #1
GENRE: Inspirational Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: January 22, 2019 (*Previously released in the Comfort & Joy boxset, October 2018)
PAGES: 127
Kendall Jackson is the proud owner of Heartfalls’ bookstore, The Cozy Shelf. Her life is one straight out of the pages, except she’s missing that leading man. Although she has a crush on the handsome auto mechanic, Quinton Hendricks, Kendall wants an old-fashioned type of romance—the stuff swoon-worthy romance books are made of. But Quinton seems to need a little prodding.
Something about Kendall sparks hope in Quinton Hendricks that love could be his again. Only being abandoned by his ex-wife has made him cautious to the point of non-moving.
Can two people hesitant on second chances find love as they Deck the Shelves?

One of my favorite things to do when writing a story is to build a Pinterest inspiration board. I can honestly admit I may have gone overboard for Deck the Shelves. I mean making my heroine the owner of a bookstore (The Cozy Shelf) ensured I would have way too much fun adding bookish pins to the board.
And that’s exactly what happened! But first I started with my heroine and hero inspirations with Zazie Beetz as Kendall and Terrence J as Quinton.
These two perfectly captured my heroine and hero. I even selected pictures for the secondary characters who I hope to give an opportunity to be front and center in future books to come.
I also had a lot of fun selecting pictures for The Cozy Shelf, Kendall’s Victorian that had been made into a bookstore. Once I had the right house selected, I choose some inspiration pictures for the inside of the store. I picked a room with a window nook and some bookish holiday décor.
There are a lot more pins in my board with bookish décor, bookstore signs, and even odds and ends Kendall sales in her store (can we say bookish wrapping paper, anyone?).
Of course Kendall wasn’t the only one who had inspiration pictures for where she lived (she lives in the top floor of the bookstore!). I also picked a place that Quinton lives in with his son and father. It’s charming and had the perfect look of fall (you know before huge snowstorm brings in the winter).
Oh and because I like to have an inspiration for what the town could look like, I checked a few places in New York state and settled on Ithaca as my inspiration for Heartfalls. Of course it’s not Heartfalls but they look similar enough I knew how I wanted to describe the place.
I’m so glad you joined me on the scenic tour of Deck the Shelves. You can take a look at all my bookish pins at https://www.pinterest.com/ToniShiloh/inspiration-for-deck-the-shelves/.

I love the Pinterest tour! Especially the settings for the bookstore, and old Victorian house is such a neat idea for a bookstore.

I like the snowman made from a stack of books! First time I’ve seen this, and it is so clever!
It’s so cute!
I love the cover! The snowman & reindeer stacked book are really cute. Our daughter made a Christmas Tree from her books a couple years ago. It was a lot of work!
The cover is one of my favorites.
I love the photos you chose, so pretty! I think setting it in a bookstore makes it even more fun to read.
I agree 🙂
Wonderful warming photos. I like the eye opening features of the buildings and other scenery.
Thank you! It was fun picking them out.
I love stories where people get second chances that work. I like the images… you can see the covers easily.
Second chances are great!
Every year I look forward to reading Christmas novels through December. This year we’re moving so I’m not fitting as many in. I’m thinking I might have to continue through January to fit all the good ones – like this one – in!
The year is moving fast! It’ll still be winter in January so continue reading! 🙂

My ideal house is a Victorian. So I could put in a library and window seats. Those pictures are so inspiring. Looking forward to reading this book.
