Three Little Things by Patti StockdaleTHREE LITTLE THINGS by Patti Stockdale
Publisher: Smitten Historical Romance
Release Date: February 4, 2020
Genre: Historical Romance

One forbidden love. Two broken hearts. Three Little Things.

Hattie Waltz should forget the troubled neighbor leaving for boot camp in 1917. He forgot about her ages ago. It had always been the Waltzes verses the Kregers, his family pitted against hers. When she hands him a farewell gift, a chemistry lesson unfolds. The good kind.

Arno Kreger can’t leave Iowa or his old man fast enough. He’s eager to prove his worth on the battlefield and stop blaming himself for his brother’s death. Before entering the train, he bumps into Hattie. He’s loved her forever, always from the sidelines, because nobody crosses Hattie’s pa.

One innocent letter soon morphs into many. Arno and Hattie share three little secrets in each letter and grow closer together. But he’s on his way to war across the ocean, and she’s still in her father’s house. Their newfound love will need to survive dangers on both fronts.

Hi Patti! Welcome to the blog! Congrats on your debut novel!

Patti: Oranges. It’s my all-time favorite scent.

Carrie: I love the smell of oranges too!

Patti: Tea. When I was a little girl, we dropped everything to drive six blocks to my grandparents’ house for teatime at three o’clock every afternoon.

Carrie: oh how fun! what great memories!

Patti: Netflix. I’m a newbie, but I like it so far.

Carrie: I just don’t binge watch enough to justify the cost of Netflix… unless it’s a Hallmark Mystery marathon of some sort haha!

Patti: Ocean. It’s my happy place.

Carrie: I feel the same way – about mountains haha!

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Patti: When I watch a sporting event on TV, I’ll often ask questions. Nine times out of ten, the commentator responds within a couple of minutes. It’s a strange superpower, but that’s okay. I amaze my husband.

Carrie: LOL! that’s awesome (and hilarious)

Q: Which books are “on your nightstand”?

Patti: Here’s the top of my TBR stack: A Bride in the Bargain by Deeanne Gist, Yours Truly, Thomas by Rachel Fordham, All of You by Sarah Monzon, Mist O’er the Voyageur by Naomi Musch, and Blow Out the Candles by Linda Glaz.

Carrie: Ah yes, the neverending TBR stack – you have some great ones waiting for you!

Q: If I sneaked a peek in your purse right now (which I would never do, I promise!), what would it tell me about you?

Patti: If you sneaked a peek into my purse right now, you’d learn that I’m lactose intolerant, I carry little cash, and I hoard pens.

Carrie: high five for a fellow no-cash, pen hoarder!

Q: Which of your main characters in Three Little Things is most like you?

Patti: I’m most like Hattie. We’re both curious and excel at second-guessing ourselves.

Carrie: lol i have that same second-guessing thing 🙂

Q: If Hollywood wanted to produce Three Little Things as a movie, who would you want to be cast as the lead roles?

Patti: If Hollywood producers wanted to cast leads for Three Little Things, I’d pick the couple in The Notebook – Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. They’re gorgeous, talented, and slightly resemble Arno and Hattie.

Carrie: oh they would be perfect!

Q: What is something God taught you while you wrote Three Little Things?

Patti: God has taught me His plans are better than my dreams. It took a long time before I fully surrendered my writing to Christ. That’s when doors inched open. I’ve tacked that message on my bulletin board as a daily reminder.

Carrie: Amen. The dreams He dreams for us are beyond what we could dream for ourselves.

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Patti: I’m polishing my second manuscript titled Because It’s True. It takes place in the same era as Three Little Things, but it’s a new cast of characters. It’s about a woman searching for her sisters and a man ready for a fresh start after the war. Together, they find fireworks, mayhem, romance, and the meaning of home.

Carrie: Sounds like my kind of book!

Patti Stockdale

Patti Stockdale loves hope, history, and a good happily ever after. She can’t remember numbers, so she married a statistician. Thanks to him, she’s lived all sorts of places and worked all sorts of jobs. While employed by an NFL team, she once answered the phone by the wrong team name. She doesn’t work there anymore. For 11 years, she directed the programming at a nonprofit senior center and hosted an annual talent show, rocking a Dolly Parton wig, Annie Oakley boots, and a sweet—although snug—Batman costume. She no longer works there either. These days, Patti writes books and occasionally educational assessments and magazine articles.

As a teen, I used to go to the town library at least once a week and prowl the stacks. If “Three Little Things“ had been on the shelf, after reading the the blurb, I’d have headed straight to the checkout desk with it because it definitely sounds like the type of stories I have favored.
