Please join me in welcoming author Taylor Bennett to the blog today to chat about the final novel in her Tradewinds trilogy – Barefoot Memories!
Taylor Bennett is a dandelion-wishing, world-traveling lover of books, words, and stories. Based in the PNW, she dreams of seeing the world and writing stories set in unique locations.
Although she dreams of traveling to many different places, her favorite destination thus far (aside from her charming hometown in Oregon) is Lahaina, Hawaii. Her love for this tropical hamlet led her to write about it, hence her debut YA novel, Porch Swing Girl, the first in a series of books set in Hawaii.

Hi Taylor! Welcome to the blog!
Taylor: Summer. I can’t spend enough time outside!!
Carrie: The series set in Hawaii makes sense! 🙂
Taylor: Cats! They’re probably my favorite animal on earth…so sweet and soft and snuggly *heart eyes*
Carrie: “Sweet, soft and snuggly” – you mean dogs, right? 😉
Taylor: The ocean has my heart forever ❤️
Carrie: I’m sensing a pattern here – ocean, summer, Hawaii… lol
Taylor: Sandwich! (Because they go better with fries 😉 )
Carrie: Fries = yum!!
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Taylor: Ooh I’d love it if writing was my superpower. It’s my dream to someday be as skilled a wordsmith as L.M. Montgomery or Louisa May Alcott (two of my favorite authors!)
Carrie: love them!
Q: If you knew you were only going to be allowed FIVE books for the rest of your life, besides the Bible, which five would make the cut?
Taylor: How can you dare to ask such a horrible question? The nerve! 😉 In all seriousness though, hmmm…let’s see.
Definitely Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, and The Complete Tales of Winnie-the-Pooh. You just can’t go wrong with the classics! I’d also have to pick The Penderwicks and The Mother-Daughter-Book-Club, two books from my childhood that I consider to be “classics” as well. Can you tell I have a penchant for nostalgia?
Carrie: hahaha sorry 😉 And a penchant for nostalgia – especially when it comes to books – is a great penchant to have!
Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?
Taylor: Hawaiian billboard laws. (They’re illegal!)
Carrie: 😯 I had no idea!
Q: If Hollywood wanted to produce the Tradewinds series as a movie, who would you want to be cast as the lead roles?
Taylor: Pick me, pick me!
In all honesty, I’m not much of a movie/TV buff, so I don’t know many actors/actresses. That being said, I’ve always had a bit of a closet fascination with the idea of getting to “be” Olive, the main character in my Tradewinds series, so I’d love a chance to play her on the big screen.
Carrie: i think that would be a lot of fun!
Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in Barefoot Memories?
Taylor: I hide a LOT in all of my books—sometimes things are in plain sight, sometimes they’re inside jokes that only I (or a few close friends) know to look for. In Barefoot Memories, one of my most faithful readers makes a cameo toward the end of the book, but there are also smaller “hidden” things. For example, my dad and I have a longstanding tradition of playing cribbage after school/work in the evenings. This got written into the story, and some family cribbage slang is incorporated into the scene 😊
Carrie: I love that!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Barefoot Memories?
Taylor: I hope that readers take away smiles, chuckles, and cheers for their favorite Tradewinds characters, and I also hope they are reminded that God has bright, beautiful plans for every one of His children. Life isn’t perfect, but with Him on our side each day is an incredible adventure.
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Taylor: Actually…nothing! Nothing writing related, that is. My trilogy has come to an end, and I’m currently a full-time college student working away at my degree in elementary education—plus I tutor kids in writing and teach music lessons in my “spare” time.
BUT I’m still carving out time to work on a secret project that I hope to start sharing hints about soon. Time will tell…
Carrie: As someone who got her degree in elementary education eons ago, I’m wondering how you have any spare time at all LOL!
