Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. (New Living Translation) Amid the current global pandemic, job layoffs, social distancing, working from home, mandatory shutdowns and stay at home orders, it’s easy to have a broken spirit right now. But laughter really is good for taking your focus off the worrisome world and lifting your heart. So I thought I’d compile a list of the books & authors who have made me laugh out loud.

First of all, here’s a list of authors whose books consistently make me laugh out loud. I’m spotlighting some of their books below, but you can’t go wrong with any of their titles really.

Pepper Basham
Mary Connealy
Jennifer Beckstrand
Regina Jennings
Jen Turano
Deeanne Gist
Dana Mentink
Erica Vetsch
Susanne Dietze
Karen Witemeyer
Margaret Brownley
Cynthia Ruchti*

*Note: I cry just as easily as I laugh with Cynthia’s books. Sometimes both at the same time 😉

And now, without further ado …

books I recommend for a good, healing laugh out loud fest

What about you? What are some books you would add to this list? Have you read any of these already?

    Hi Carrie,
I love books that make me laugh outloud. I have three of these books. This list includes many of my favorite authors. I’m bookmarking this post to add the rest to my wishlist. Thank you so much! I really need to laugh. The world is a scary place right now for a person with asthma.
    Stay well!

    • it definitely is, Elle. Thankfully we have great authors & their great books to help us laugh! I’m glad the list was helpful for you 🙂 Take care!

    Great list.
An older couple of series are by Kristen Billerbeck. Spa Girls and Trophy Wives Club. Also Sandra Byrd has the trio of books about pastry chef Lexie. I think they are on sale right now!
Love these authors. Going to make my list longer!!!

    • oh yay! I didn’t know about the Billerbeck series & didn’t realize that the pastry chef series of Sandra’s was funny – adding to my TBR list. Fair trade for adding to yours haha

Love this list and I’m thrilled and honored to be on it. Thank you! I see quite a few I haven’t read and I’m going to add them to my TBR pile. I need all the laughs I can get right now! (Don’t we all?!)

    Stay well!
