Asbury High YA Cozy Mystery #1
GENRE: Cozy Mystery, Young Adult
PUBLISHER: Purple Milk Publishing
RELEASE DATE: February 1, 2020
PAGES: 260

Asbury, although a haven to shoobies (tourists) in the summer, is a divided coastal town. With the rich half living in the East, and the rest living in the West, most friendships stay within their boundaries. Luckily for a spunky-smart tomboy, a clever billionaire athlete, a gossipy-in-the-know cheerleader, and a wrong side of the tracks technological genius, boundaries are a foreign concept. In fact, Maddie, Cornelious, Carly and Pilot have been Asbury’s strongest quartet for years, despite their vast differences.

Nevertheless, after a few weeks of starting high school, the foursome’s friendship is tested.

After a string of burglaries in East Asbury, the gang decides to solve the crime as a reason to make time for each other. The further they investigate, the more they find themselves constantly side-stepping tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum-like policemen, outsmarting local bully JB and his gang of misfits, and dealing with Cornelious’ billionaire father and Governor—who has disapproved of his son’s choice of friends for years. In addition to these obstacles, the foursome must also adapt to their evolving friendship with each other and their peers.

With upperclassmen, teachers, and teammates vying for their attention, the gang must work even harder to root out the red-herrings from the true thief. Aided by Carly’s gossip, Maddie’s boldness, Cornelious’ quick-wit, and Pilot’s knack for technology, the gang soon discovers its edge over the local police department.

the one person i couldn’t live without and why

by Kelly Brady Channick, author of Asbury High and The Thief’s Gamble

Any one who knows me, knows this answer is completely obvious. I could NEVER live without my husband, Ryan. Not only is he incredibly supportive and handsome, but he’s honestly the best person I know. An athlete himself, Ryan makes it very easy for me to remain active and keep a healthy lifestyle. We love running, playing sports and just working out in general together. Though I admit I eat sweets more than him, before we got together I wouldn’t think twice about having a dozen or so cookies for dinner. Nowadays, I make sure dinner consists of a protein, carb, and some veggies. That example alone should prove that I couldn’t live without him, as his dietary habits have definitely increased my lifespan already.

When I met Ryan, I had just graduated college and had started working as a middle school teacher. As a medical resident, I didn’t realize (until years later), how difficult it was for Ryan to get sleep, workout and make time for me. But he did, and six years later, we’re married! The day after we met he worked a twenty-eight hour shift (INSANE!), but still managed to text me and see how I was. Talk about a cutie! But that’s Ryan, for you. He always thinks of others and is the sweetest person I know. Our little guy is nine months old now, and we can tell he takes after Ry. He always offers to share his toys, smiles all the time and almost never cries! Everyone tells us to watch out for the next one, but with Ryan by my side I’m not worried… in fact I want four more!!

Anyway, other than his mindfulness towards others and health, Ryan is always quietly hilarious. What I mean is, he is never the loudest person in the room—thank God, that person is usually obnoxious anyway— but he has the ability to make a comment here or there, that will crack anyone up and shows how sharp he is. Because I’m someone who tends to over plan and make lists of lists, its nice to have someone who mellows me out and lets me see what’s actually important, especially when we’re three minutes late to being fifteen minutes early (as I planned).

And finally, the number one reason I couldn’t live without him, is happiness. I have never been as happy as I am when I am with my husband. We’re the weird couple that doesn’t fight, seems to know what the other is thinking, and will accidentally color coordinate without meaning to (They do say great minds think alike, after all). Whenever I feel frustrated or down, Ryan is the only person who can cheer me up, and most times he doesn’t even need to say a word. He is the best person I know, and if he ever happens to be your doctor or you run into him somewhere, you’ll see what I mean automatically. I love him!

For as long as she could remember, Kelly Brady Channick loved making up stories and leaving her listeners/readers on the edge of their seats.

Perhaps that’s why she always managed to talk herself out of trouble…

After graduating from NJ’s own Ocean City High School, Kelly accepted a basketball scholarship to Holy Family University, in Philadelphia. As a lifelong athlete, Kelly understands the importance of teamwork and overcoming adversity, something she hopes translates into her books.

Before writing page-turners, she taught first, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade — like a dessert menu, she simply had to test them all out. But her favorite job is the one she’s now doing full time: writing. Kelly loves to craft whodunit mysteries, leading readers through various twists and turns filled with red-herrings, hidden clues, and more peculiar characters than a reality show.

Kelly lives in South Jersey with her handsome husband, energetic baby boy, two cookie-stealing dogs, and an awfully smart cat.

The 2 sides of the track, the haves & the have nots…. Interesting gang you’ve gathered there! I imagine each side will have something to contribute to solve the mystery/crimes.
