Top Ten Tuesday: Why Is This Book On My TBR List?

Posted June 9, 2020 by meezcarrie in Top Ten Tuesday / 19 Comments

Happy Tuesday! Today’s theme for Top Ten Tuesday is ‘Books I’ve Added to my TBR and Forgotten Why’. This topic sent me to the darkest corners of my TBR pile, and it honestly surprised me how many times I asked myself, “Why is this book on my TBR pile?” And I’m not gonna lie… it also sent me a little bit into mourning over all the books I want to read and need to just quit everything for at least a year to catch up. LOL

For all of these, I know I had a reason to add them to my TBR list at the time but darned if I know why now lol.

The cover isn’t one that would necessarily grab my attention & neither is the time period.

I am not a fan in general of graphic novels / comic books. Maybe I saved this for my husband? Who knows.

I’m sure this is a lovely book but I don’t typically read older protagonists or ghost stories, so I’m puzzled as to why it’s on my TBR list lol

This is nonfiction (which is fine) but I don’t usually read books about all the hats a woman wears because I don’t wear any of the hats that belong to a mom (which usually makes up a lot of these books).

I’m not a fan of Neil Gaiman… or short stories … or horror.

I didn’t like the first book in this series and don’t plan to read further so why are all the rest of the Outlander books on my TBR list? No. Idea. lol

I’m not sure why I added this book – it seems like a confusing plot line & not one that would typically interest me. Maybe I’d just listened to Brad Paisley’s “Letter to Me” and was feeling introspective lol.

I’m not big on nonfiction, especially essays, humorous or otherwise.

I must have been trying to appear sophisticated or something when I added this one to my TBR pile. But let’s face it – I’m never going to read it lol.

Again, not typically a fan of short stories.

What about you? Have you read any of these? What is a book you’ve found on your TBR list lately and thought why?

Check out some books with one-word titles on my TBR pile! (But I know exactly why they’re on there – because I must read them. Must. Must.)

  1. I know the feeling, I’ve gone through my Goodreads list on my post and some of them , I’,m like Huh, it’s also fascinating to see how many were never actually released into books.

  2. I am just like you, not a fan of essays/short stories. I found one on my TBR and I was like, what?! Haha, it’s funny how sometimes these books just sneak up on there!!

  3. Paula Shreckhise

I have too many to go through right now! I usually save novellas for when I need to up my count on my reading goal for the year. But this year I am 12 books ahead of schedule! Wow! Never happened before.
I am reading a prequel-fulll length book so I can read the next book for a book club. First part was OK. But now I’m wondering if I thought this was a funny series. Not sure I want to continue???? That’s probably why I put it on my TBR in the first place. Can’t really see why it was picked for this particular book club??? Maybe I should have looked at the reviews?

  4. I have not read any of these. I really need to go through my Goodreads list again and be ruthless. I know there are many books I want to read, but realistically, I won’t read them so they should come off.

  5. I did a different topic this week because I feel like at least 80% of my TBR list on Goodreads could fit into this category! I add books to my list so I won’t forget them, but guess what happens all too often? I TOTALLY forget about them. Honestly, I don’t stress too much over the length of my TBR lists or the fact that I’ll never get to most of them because that’s just life.

    Happy TTT!

  6. Oooo! Adding the Babbage and Lovelace graphic novel to my TBR! Dr. Zhivago was already on my TBR, but classics are often on my TBR (I am a former English Major/Teacher after all. : ) )

I assume that all books on my TBR that I don’t remember are because someone on Goodreads wrote a really interesting or fangirling sort of review that made me want to read it.

    • haha I suspect some of mine are from previous TTT posts where I thought for whatever reason that it sounded interesting & I needed to read them lol

  7. Very, uh, eclectic list 😉 ! I read Doctor Zhivago one summer during college. I have to admit it was way more entertaining than the Soviet era novels I had to read for class.

  8. I struggled mightily to get through B.J. Novak’s book. I couldn’t get 3 chapters in. I switched to the audiobook, and I still could only get through the chapters his Office co-stars narrated.
