A WORTHY HEART
GENRE: Inspirational Contemporary Romance
PUBLISHER: Anaiah Press
RELEASE DATE: July 7, 2019
Joel Bennett has always known Serena Hayes as his sister’s gregarious best friend. In the three years since Lacey began college, Serena became a regular houseguest, but lately, she’s absent more than not. When Joel discovers she’s in an abusive relationship, protectiveness from within roars to life.
With only a part time job to support her and nowhere to go, Serena fears leaving her current relationship would jeopardize her chances of graduating college. After a brutal attack leaves her no choice, she courageously moves out. On her journey toward regaining confidence, self-worth, and independence, Joel falls in beside her, encouraging her. The way he emulates Godly love and compassion draws her close—not just to him, but to the God who can satisfy her longing for love better than any man,
Attraction sizzles between them, but events from their pasts cast shadows of doubt. When the unthinkable happens, can Serena open her heart to a second chance at love, or is she destined to be alone?

my playlist for a worthy heart
by Sara Beth Williams, author of A Worthy Heart
Have you ever heard a song on the radio, Christian or otherwise, and thought – wow that literally speaks to or captures perfectly that character or book I just read – or the book I’m writing? This happens to me All. The. Time.
Romance is my jam. Otherwise I wouldn’t be writing what I write. But growing up, music has been an integral part of my life and continues to inspire me daily. Growing up, my mom played guitar at church. She began to teach me how to play when I was 16 or 17. But it would be 10 more years before I picked it up again and began playing regularly.
My 2nd book, A Worthy Heart, turns one this month, (can you believe that??) and to celebrate, I’ve created a playlist of songs that inspired, or speak to, the themes of my book.
Many of these songs, though they speak to the themes of A Worthy Heart, also speak to the themes in all my books. Forgiveness, redemption, love, faith, hope and grace. Without further adieu, here is a small playlist that represents A Worthy Heart:
Grace Wins: by Matthew West: I adore this song. Everything about this song. It’s just so uplifting and beautiful. This speaks to the deepest part of my heart. My characters, like myself, when they look deep enough, find nothing but ugliness. We’re not good enough. We often don’t feel we’re worthy enough. But God sees us completely differently. And Grace wins every time.
More Beautiful You: by Jonny Diaz
This is a song for all women. Its lyrics paint a picture of girls struggling to be perfect. To attain perfection and success and this is what Serena struggles with. I don’t dig too deep into vanity, but she comes from a wealthy family where vanity and wealth and success are what has been preached to her all her life. But finding success is what she has struggled with and must come to terms with throughout the novel. What does success actually look like? And for all the success she does or doesn’t have, what really, truly matters in the end? The message of this song is worth.
Fight Song: by Rachel Platten
This song speaks to the fighter in Serena. To the strength, to the determination. Leaving an abusive relationship is never easy, whether you’ve been in one for a short time, or a long time. It is a huge step of faith, a huge risk. This song captured that determination to fight your way out.
You Are My Hope: by Danny Gokey
The first verse gets me every time. It speaks to the heart of someone running, someone struggling. I love the message in this song, and this speaks to Joel’s character. He has from the beginning, even before book 1 takes place, held onto the steadfast hope of Christ in his life. Through the pain and the struggle, he’s remained steady. Though he faces difficulties and though he’s not perfect, his faith helps both his sister and Serena to overcome their struggles.
Overcomer: by Mandisa
I remember hearing this song frequently while I wrote A Worthy Heart. I knew I wanted this to be one of the overarching themes. Serena is an overcoming. Even though she wasn’t a believer when she left her relationship, she had believers praying for her and walking beside her. I believe praying friends are what can change the hearts and minds of others to want to make a change for the better.
I honestly could list five more Matthew West songs because I love all his music so much! But I’ll stop here.
What’s your favorite song from this list? Can you think of any other songs that speak to the themes of grace, hope, love and worthiness?
