The Joys of Christmas

by Kimberly Rose Johnson, author of Certain Threat

Christmas comes at the best time of year, during the darkest days of winter. It’s a shining light to help people like me get through the cold and dark days. I love all the lights, the cheerful music and the kindness of strangers.

Speaking of the kindness of strangers. My husband and I enjoy walking in our neighborhood everyday no matter the season. One day a few years ago, during our walk on Christmas morning, we passed a couple we often saw while walking. I’d say hi or wave in passing but had never received much of a response until that morning. I have not forgotten it since it was so out of character for them. It’s now two or three years later and they are still friendly. I have no idea what prompted the change, but I’d like to believe the spirit of Christmas fell on them and didn’t leave. 🙂

In my book Certain Threat, my hero struggles with decorating for the holiday but he has a huge heart even though everyone around him teases him about his lack of “Christmas spirit.”

Even in the midst of danger he managed to have a true Christmas spirit. To me the spirit of Christmas is Jesus’ love being spread to others. Frank definitely knows how to show love toward others in big and small ways. For example rescuing his neighbor when an explosion goes off in her house and giving up his holiday to make sure his neighbor stays safe.

The love Jesus shared is the best kind of Christmas spirit, but I sure do enjoy the lights and music! How about you? What do you most enjoy about Christmas?
