A CUP OF CHRISTMAS KINDNESS
SERIES: Christmas Holiday Extravaganza
GENRE: Inspirational Contemporary Romance
PUBLISHER: White Rose Publishing
RELEASE DATE: December 1, 2020
Violet Steele returns to her parents’ home in small-town Nebraska to pay off school loans. But her first social activity is the celebration of life for a woman she’d dreamt would someday be her mother-in-law.
Heath Banfield is haunted by memories of Violet leaving him in their youth. He ended up with a woman who never wanted motherhood, and he’s become bitter and hard when it comes to love and trust. Now he’s dealing with his mother’s death. In her absence, he needs an after-school caregiver for his daughter. When Violet offers to tend for the eight-year-old, he’s not sure he can handle her act of kindness.
Violet is still in love with Heath, and helping him through his grief and caring for his delightful daughter is a welcome opportunity. But Heath is wary, and she’ll have to muster every ounce of kindness she has.
Will Violet’s deliberate holiday deeds lead to romance, or will Heath’s hurt deepen his bitterness?
behind the scenes of the book
- I wrote the celebration of life with my Aunt Violet’s service on my mind
- Ceresco is a real Nebraska town
- Ernie’s is a popular furniture store
- I had too much in mind for the story so have the premise of my next Christmas tale
- I had no idea what my characters looked like until I created the collage (below)
behind the scenes with the characters
Kind and giving trigger-point therapist Violet Steele returns to her parents’ small-town home in Nebraska to find a job and settle school debts. She’d been taken advantage of and hurt by an ex and a roommate in California.
Motor vehicle fraud investigator Heath Banfield is haunted by memories of Violet leaving him in their youth. His daughter’s mother abandoned them because she never wanted motherhood, and he will do all in his power to prevent her from future rejection.
Violet’s reappearance in Heath’s life is mixed up with his father’s grief and his daughter’s obsession with fairies. With his mother gone, he needs an after-school caregiver for his daughter when he returns to work.
Violet offers to spend time with the eight-year-old neighbor girl as an act of kindness for Heath, whom she still loves. Dealing with his own grief, he accepts their attention. His daughter is delighted to keep company with his first love.
behind the scenes with the author
I open another book as soon as I close one, in 2019 that came to 285 (many novellas). This year [a few fave reads are] When I Close My Eyes by Elizabeth Musser, Victim of Grace by Robin Jones Gunn, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, The Secrets of Paper and Ink by Lindsay Harrel, Adorning the Dark by Andrew Peterson, and Dream King by Will Ford and Matt Locket. I can recommend most anything published by Pelican Book Group.
Nebraska country girl LoRee Peery writes fiction that hopefully appeals to adult readers who enjoy stories written from a Christian perspective, focusing on the romance.
