FOR THE LOVE OF JOY
Series: Coastal Hearts
Author: Janet W. Ferguson
Release Date: January 1, 2021
Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance / Southern rom-com
Years ago, a Dear John letter and then an IED explosion overseas rocked Davis Donnelly’s world and left him unclear about his marital status. He’d signed divorce papers, but broken mentally and physically, he’d never bothered to find out if his marriage actually ended. Now that he’s about to start a new position as an outreach minister, it’s time to settle things once and for all. At the moment he tracks down his wife—or former wife?—she takes a tumble while chasing a little boy. Her son. And that’s when life flips upside down.
Joy Jennings Donnelly made her share of mistakes. But one thing she never considered a mistake was her child, and she’ll do anything to protect him. Even keep his paternity a secret.
When she’s suddenly injured with not a soul to help her or her son, Joy is forced to rely on the man who has the most reasons to hate her.

little-known facts about me
- I’m deaf in one ear.
- I have a degree in Banking but have never worked in a bank.
- After camping and warning my kids to watch for snakes the whole time, I stood on one. Luckily a king snake!
- I’ve had five very different careers!
- I bought a boat when I was single and went water skiing almost every day of the summer after work for three years. (And still never got very good at it! No upper body strength, LOL!)
my fave lines/scenes from For the Love of Joy
“Seems like I haven’t kissed you since Moby Dick was a minnow.”
In his own case, marriage had been a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
The man had thought the sun came up just to hear him crow, and he’d been about as useless a husband as a screen door on a bass boat.
“I’ve heard preachers say they were sinners, but he’s the first one I believed.”
“Even if I did still have an inkling of a feeling for Joy—which I don’t— there is zero educational value in the second kick of a mule.”
Side note from Carrie: I am absolutely GIGGLING while I paste these in here hahaha – anyone else tickled by these lines from the book?
my writing companions
For the past couple of years, four women met a private location, and they plotted murder and mayhem and disease. They planned disaster after disaster for individuals who’d done them absolutely no harm. The betrayal, the surgeries, the unfair attacks, oh my!
Good thing they weren’t plotting about real people, but only imagined characters for four Mississippi authors’ future novels! 🙂
I was blessed to be invited to plotting weekends with amazing authors: Stephenia H. McGee, Pam Hillman, and Patricia Bradley. We had charting pads, computers, and craft books. There was a lot of food and coffee involved! Then we all took turns introducing our next book idea, and the other ladies would jump in with ideas and brainstorm. It took about half a day per novel. We dug deep into our characters’ motivations, their childhood, their hurts, and their psyche. So much fun!! Okay, and work.
Each of us write in a slightly different genre, but we all write inspirational stories. Patricia and I both write contemporary, but she writes suspense–which usually means a murder! Pam and Stephenia both write historical novels, Pam’s are romances, while Stephenia’s are often women’s fiction with a romance thread.
The virus issue kept us from having all four of us this year, but since Stephenia and I live in the same town, we met outside on her porch to plot.
Writer friends are such a blessing! They truly helped me make For the Love of Joy a much better novel! I pray that the four of us can get together again in 2021!
