Release Date: March 16, 2021

He can’t buy his way out of trouble this time…

Housekeeper-slash-entrepreneur Ella Bradley prides herself on being ready for anything. After all, with a father who died—and lied to her—and a stepmom and stepsister who despise her, she has no one else to depend on. But on the biggest night of her life, she’s unprepared to be trapped in an elevator with the man of her dreams.

Wealthy prince-to-a-fortune Adrian Vassos wants nothing more than to shed his reputation as a party boy and prove that he is a savvy businessman. Even, a gentleman. But when he’s trapped with a woman who knows his reputation but not his face, he gives into the temptation to be someone else—and lies.

When serendipity brings them together again—this time to work off community service—can their combined sentences spark a new ending? Maybe…if Adrian’s lies don’t find him out. Again.

The magic of Deep Haven enchants in this modern-day Cinderella story.

BOOKS IN THIS SERIES

Hi Andrea! Welcome to the blog!

Andrea: Apples! Love ‘em. So many varieties for all your cravings. Plus, they are easier to eat than oranges. Ha!

Carrie: yes!! lol i agree on all counts 🙂

Andrea: Coffee. Definitely coffee. Preferably dark roast, sometimes with a splash of heavy cream.

Carrie: Coffee always seems like it would taste so good… until I taste it hahaha

Andrea: Audiobooks. Or podcasts. I listen for entertainment, not information, so even the podcasts on my list are usually more like stories.

Carrie: that makes sense!

Andrea: Ocean. My dream would be to own a place at the beach where I can write on my porch (lanai?) and listen to the waves. And, when I’m stuck on something I could go for a walk by the water.

Carrie: I’m not a beach person but I do love to sit near a rocky ocean coast and listen to the waves crashing.

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Andrea: Teleportation. I’d love to get where I want to go in an instant. I do enjoy the journey if we are taking a vacation, but if I could pop down to my sister’s or my mom’s house for a cup of coffee without spending three hours on the road, I’d be ecstatic!

But, maybe you mean a talent that I actually have. Hmmm. I’d say being able to ignore the housework in favor of doing more reading or writing.

Carrie: either answer is acceptable 🙂 And I would LOVE a teleportation superpower …. or a ‘blink and it’s clean’ superpower.

Q: Tell me some good books you’ve read recently.

Andrea: So many! Okay, a quick five: Cast the First Stone by David James Warren (Time travel fiction), Everywhere to Hide by Siri Mitchell (Political thriller), The Library Book by Susan Orlean (Historical Non-fiction), The Bridge to Belle Island by Julie Klassen (Christian mystery), and Wake up Missing by Kate Messner (YA suspense).

Carrie: oooo I’m not familiar with that last one but all the others are on my TBR list – and so is the last one now 😉

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?

Andrea: For Can’t Buy Me Love, I had to dive into the world of water parks (see what I did there?). Googling “common water park problems” brought up some…interesting results.

Carrie: LOL i bet it did

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing Can’t Buy Me Love, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Andrea: The book was pretty well outlined when I started. I’m generally a “pantser” so plotting it out like that was a challenge for me. As always, there were times where the characters decided to deviate from the script. I will say that the storyline developed quite differently from my first story idea spark.

Carrie: i think i would have a hard time being a plotter…

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from Can’t Buy Me Love?

Andrea: I started out with the idea of identity. Who defines who we are? I believe our standing with God and what HE believes about us is where we find our identity.

There are other major themes in the book, but I’d love for my readers to know that in God’s hands they are loved and precious.

Carrie: amen ♥

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Andrea: I’m excited to say that I’m putting some final touches on my second novel Hanging By A Moment. This one will feature Colleen Decker, Ella’s friend, who some will remember from Susan May Warren’s book You Don’t Know Me. Colleen comes home to Deep Haven and tries to figure out how to fit back into the town that only remembers her as a troublemaking teen. I’ve enjoyed working on this project, Colleen reminds me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast!

Carrie: YAY! I love the fairy tale spin you’re putting on these books 🙂

I have not yet read a book by Andrea Christenson, but this one sounds fun and exciting!

I loved the first book in this series (LOVED it!).
I hope I get a chance to read this one sometime.

Probably doesn’t hurt that I’m a house-keeper, so I already have one connection to Ella!

  3. Roxanne C.

I liked both of Andrea Christenson’s superpowers that she mentions in the interview. I, too, can ignore housework so I can read. LOL

  4. Emilee Douglas

I read the first book in this series and that’s what makes me want to read this one.
