Dear John…
For teacher Lily Hogan, those words would come to mean so much. She knew that giving back to the community brought joy into people’s lives. When her fourth-grade class writes letters to the military overseas in Afghanistan, she takes up her own pen and leads her students by example – writing a letter to an unknown soldier.

CPO John Griffin and his K-9 dog, Radar, have been through so much together over the last several years. Sniffing out bombs, searching the hills and mentoring his team, he feels so alone and unsure of his future- until a letter reminds him that there’s more to life in this world he’s protecting. Simple words, a kind gesture and feeling that he isn’t forgotten out there in the desert, compels him to write back. Before long, he finds himself looking forward to the care packages and letters from his pen-pal halfway across the world.

With every letter and every word, they begin to develop a friendship and wonder what the other person is truly like? Major life changes are scary enough as it is – but is it possible to fall in love with someone before you’ve even laid eyes upon them? Can the magic of the season bring the sweetest gift of all?

** Note: This book was reissued with an updated book cover and second surprise epilogue! Previously called “Lawfully Gifted-A Lawkeeper Christmas Romance”

About the healing hearts series

These standalone sweet, clean romances follow a team of soldiers that were once stationed in Afghanistan, bound by friendship. They can be read alone but if you read them together, their stories are so much richer.

Hi Ginny! Welcome to the blog!

Ginny: Neither – chocolate! Ohhhh maybe those amazing chocolate covered oranges you see at Christmas?

Carrie: oooo chocolate is an excellent alternative although i would hate to give up yummy apples altogether lol

Ginny: Caffeine period – but I prefer coffee. I am an addict and love everything coffee related. I have a massive collection of Starbucks mugs that is disgraceful (six cupboards full! I am so sorry, honey – it’s a sickness) *hangs head in shame*

Carrie: well… I have two cupboards full of mugs and I hate coffee & tea. I’m not sure what that says about me. *gives a commiserating shoulder pat*

Ginny: Music. I love pop, country, and 90’s rock.

Carrie: Same! (Although sub 90s rock with southern rock)

Ginny: … As long as it’s not a corncob, newspaper, or the Yellow Pages – we are golden! Hahahaha!

Carrie: LOL!!

Ginny: Dr. Pepper (I’m a rebel)

Carrie: lol i’ll allow it 😉

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Ginny: Multi-tasking. I would love to say something amazing like baking, painting, sculpting, etc. but I have this innate gift of being able to do something, stop mid-way, do something else, then something else supremely uneventful, and pick up right where I left off. SQUIRREL!

Carrie: I never used to be that way but it’s become a recent superpower of mine too – i blame the pandemic lol

Q: When you walk into a bookstore, where do you head first?

Ginny: Clearance section… quantity over quality – those books need love too and I’m ready to re-home them! (I’m actually really thrifty and you can find a lot of good buys there)

Carrie: you are not wrong!

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?

Ginny: In researching for a series (Disaster City Search and Rescue) I was studying avalanche K-9 dogs and was stunned to discover that they search for ‘scent pools’ (FrEaKy!). These are locations where the victim will give off a strong ‘scent’ from panic or sweat… and the dogs can smell this from 2 acres away!

Carrie: oh wow! that’s crazy…

Q: Were there any songs that inspired you as you wrote the Healing Hearts series?

Ginny: Perfect – by Ed Sheeran… oh, and anything by Taylor Swift (I’m a huge fan!)

Carrie: *warbles loudly* We are never ever, ever getting back together / We are never ever, ever getting back together / You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me / But we are never ever, ever, ever getting back together / Like, ever  (I know she has her own title for this song but I call it ‘High School Youth Group’ haha)

Q: If Hollywood wanted to produce your books as movies, who would you want to be cast as the lead roles?

Ginny: Hallelujah! I knew someone would finally ask this…

*cracks knuckles*

John Griffin would *have* to be played by Chris Evans. (Hello, is there any other heart-throb out there that could rock a uniform?)

Lily – I could certainly see Emilia Clarke or Anne Hathaway.

Hody – could be played easily by The Rock… or Tom Hardy (swoon)

Tobin – definitely Matt Damon

Minter – Sebastian Stan

Wilkes – Ben Affleck or Joe Jonas (surprise!)

Leia – Rachel Weitz

Daisy – Emma Watson

Cooper – Ryan Reynolds

Ava – Rachel McAdams or Reese Witherspoon

No, no, no… Cora would have to be Reese…

*scribbles excitedly*

If Hollywood would only call – I’ve got the entire cast plotted out in my mind and ready to go for my Healing Hearts series… in fact, my two upcoming books (Remember Peace and Remember Forever) I’m thinking Ryan Gosling or Chris Pine.

Carrie: you crack me up 🙂 Excellent casting choices, by the way!

Q: What do you most want readers to take away from the Healing Hearts series?

Ginny: In all of my sweet romance books – I focus on the relationship that is built as a foundation of friendship. I believe love comes when that friendship deepens and grows with trust, faith, and being ready to accept that person for who they are.

Everyone has the capacity to love – but we meet our perfect soulmate when He decides we are ready…

Carrie: so very true ♥ My husband and I were best friends before we fell in love – friendship gets you through the tough patches.

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Ginny: 2021 is a crazy year for me, as I am diligently working at a breakneck pace to bring my dreams to life. I am planning on publishing 23 books this year and already have seven under my belt. I’ve got a release planned every month this year in my Legendary Brides Mail Order series and it’s…well, legendary!

Carrie: that made me tired just thinking about writing all those books! Girl, make sure you get some rest too! lol
