What readers can expect from this book
by Rhonda Stoppe, author of Moms Raising Sons to be Men
When I was a young mother I knew I wasn’t the mom I meant to be––not even close. While the mother of my imagination was patient, kind, and took time to playfully laugh with her kids, the mother I became was tired, irritated, and weary with the work that came with raising humans – Maybe you can relate?
Looking around at other mothers, who seemed to not only have it together but actually enjoyed motherhood, made me feel alone, like I was the only mom who struggled. I knew I needed help if I was going to learn a better way of parenting. So, I looked to the parents of teens in our youth group (my husband was in youth ministry).
I searched for kids who actually liked their moms. And for mothers who genuinely enjoyed their role. When I revealed my hopeless state to mothers I wanted to emulate, do you know what they did? They didn’t judge me. Nope. Rather, they befriended me. They were real, genuine and transparent.
As these women opened up the book of their own motherhood journey, I learned I wasn’t alone in my struggles. I discovered a treasure trove of wisdom and a wealth of support from compassionate friends who’d walked in my shoes.
The Bible instructs older women to teach the younger how to love their husbands and their children. (Loving my husband was something I also learned from these ladies, but that help’s found in another book that I’ve written.)
These older women did just that. They taught me how to love my children. They taught me how to parent without regrets. And they taught me how to actually value and enjoy my role of motherhood.
There is a trend these days to follow online influencers. Whether they’re parenting, fashion, gardening, or coupon cutting influencers, their followers can be inspired by their example in their unique genre. But in the following it’s easy to feel inadequate, as you compare yourself against their social media perfect posts. When I observe a do-it-yourself Mompreneur who grows her own food, makes dresses out of pillowcases, and remodels her kitchen on a dime, I can’t help but feel intimidated. Can I get a witness?
But there is real value in being influenced by a real person who’s walked your path. I find it interesting, that God knows our need as moms for influential friendships. That’s why He calls older mothers to influence young moms. And that’s why I wrote Moms Raising Sons to Be Men! Did I parent perfectly, absolutely not. As you’ll discover in the book, I learned many things the hard way––but learned them I did. And I’m passing them on to you, through the pages of this book.
Composing a letter to my younger-self, does me no good. But a book to your younger-self, that unpacks examples from my own parenting journey, biblical mothers, moms in history, and present day stories of hope and inspiration––that’s the mommy manual you’ve been looking for. And that’s what you can expect to find in Moms Raising Sons to Be Men.
And I get it, I know moms are busy. So, I just released the audio version of the book. You can listen to me read it to you while you do your mommy thing.

What about you? What makes you want to read (or listen to!) Moms Raising Sons to be Men by Rhonda Stoppe?
This sounds brilliant! We need boys to be raised to be Godly men. “Masculinity” has been treated as if it’s something awful, and boys have been shamed for things they’re not responsible for. Emasculating men isn’t the answer. The answer is raising them in the fear and admonition of the Lord to be the good, strong, loving men God meant them to be.
Thank you for writing this!
