Happy Tuesday! Today’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday is “Books I’d Want With Me While Stranded on a Desert Island.” I debated for a bit on how I wanted to approach this topic – do I want to talk about fiction books I’d want to reread over and over? How to narrow that down?? So ultimately I decided to go a bit tongue-in-cheek today and talk about books that could prove useful should I find myself in this unfortunate circumstance.

helpful fiction
Yes, these books would provide entertainment but they might be helpful too since they focus on people being stranded on an island.
The Captain’s Quest by Lorri Dudley (Historical Romance)
Forsaken Island by Sharon Hinck (Fantasy)
Uncharted by Angela Hunt (Suspense)
helpful how-to books
How to Survive on a Deserted Island by Tim O’Shei
This children’s book promises to “tell you how to find drinkable water, catch food, and signal rescuers that you need help.” And probably at a reading level that makes it easy to follow the instructions. You can bet this one’s coming with me for sure!
Survival Hacks by Creek Stewart
Ok, this book may be for wilderness survival but considering that it covers such helpful topics as shelter, water, food, staying healthy, and the all important fire, I still think it would be handy to have around.
How to Build Your Own Tiny House by Roger Marshall
I mean… if I’m going to be stranded there indefinitely I’m going to want better accommodations than a makeshift shelter 🙂
The Complete Guide to Edible Wild Plants
I’m not normally a salad person but desperate times & all that…
How to Make People Like You In 90 Seconds (or less) by Nicholas Boothman
Just in case the island is already inhabited & I have to quickly convince them I’m a friend, not a foe… or lunch.
The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs by Tristan Gooley
Since this book promises to help us use Outdoor Clues to find our way, predict the weather, locate water, and track animals, among other forgotten skills, I think it would prove invaluable to have on the island with me… especially since nature is about all I’d have at that point.
The Ultimate Guide to U.S. Army Survival Skills, Tactics, and Techniques
If it was good enough for MacGyver, it’s good enough for me!
And of course I’d want my Bible and my Kindle with me, too (yes that’s cheating, don’t judge me haha)

What about you? Which books would you want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?
While practical books would be helpful, I’m sure that (within reason), I’d just be glad to have some novels on the island to enjoy! Also am sure that the only kind of stranded island living I’d survive is one that doesn’t pose threats. 😉
LOL very good point – and that’s why I’m bringing my Kindle too 😉
Clever post!
thanks! 🙂
Those would be very helpful. I would include some novels I wouldn’t mind re-reading. An anthology of Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie?
ooo an anthology would be good – several books in one 🙂
Survival Hacks and Tiny House are both very practical picks! I’d want them, too.

thanks, Lydia! 🙂
I like your last three picks (and the rationales)!
Here’s my list!
thanks! 🙂
These are great picks, especially the survivalist books.
thanks, Megan! 🙂
Great picks. I would want my Bible to give me strength & wisdom while stranded.
absolutely!!
Fun post! I’d want some of Kristen Harmel’s novels. Fantasy and mystery/suspense would be ideal too.
I’ll have to check out her books!
I love it, so funny! Thanks for sharing.
haha thanks 🙂
I don’t know why I didn’t think of survival books for my list today. That was so smart of you!
well… hopefully we’ll never have to use these lists LOL
Lots of survival books here. I guess I wasn’t worried about surviving, just keeping from getting bored.
LOL that’s also important 🙂 I just couldn’t narrow down my list of fiction to bring along haha
Survival Hacks, The Complete Guide to Edible Plants, The Lost Art of Reading Natures Signs, The Ultimate Guide to U.S. Army Survival Skills, Tactics, and Techniques, and just for the fun of it The Captains Quest 🙂
What a fun book list Carrie!
thanks, Trixi! 🙂
Love the mix of survival stories. Happy reading. My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/ten-books-i-want-to-read-by-the-end-of-2021/
thanks, Stefani!
While the practical books would be great, I had to take a guffaw on the “how to build a tiny house” book. Maybe that’s the best one to take!
I love your survival picks, so thanks for thinking of them because I would freak without internet and my ebooks!! But, in hand, I would love to have my Bible for sure and then be surrounded by Christian Historical Fiction ❤️😀
I would want my Bible first off. If they still have Girl Scout books that teach survivor skills, that would be helpful. I would also need a book that would tell me about what plants are edible as well as poison. Thank you for the opportunity. God bless you.
