Monday morning when the alarm buzzed by her side of the bed, it was all Rhonda could do to pull herself upright and turn it off. She’d had trouble getting to sleep last night, thinking about the home she and Jeff had looked at in Walnut Creek. So many questions and concerns had encompassed her thoughts, making it hard to come up with a decision about whether they should make an offer on the house.
Rhonda yawned as she sat remembering their drive into Walnut Creek. It was a quaint place with small businesses dotting the area, but there were many homes spaced out on large properties.
If they did get the home they’d seen, some of their extra down time would go into taking care of a yard, which they weren’t used to doing. Due to her job, Rhonda’s time was limited, and she’d have to adjust her new routine to include the longer commute. Even so, she couldn’t help thinking about how nice the rural countryside looked and that maybe yard work could become a way to de-stress.
Rhonda couldn’t get over seeing the Plain people riding in those little black buggies drawn by horses. She tapped her chin. They sure live simply in the way they get around and even how they dress. I wonder what it would be like to get to know some of them.
