Three Great Things: August 2021

Posted September 1, 2021 by meezcarrie in Christian, giveaway, Three Great Things / 41 Comments

It’s September! Which means it’s FALL (as far as I’m concerned). I’ve got a fall candle burning as I type, and some Honeycrisp apples calling my name in the fridge. The end of the month means it’s time for another Three Great Things post, the new blog series I started in January. It’s easy these days to get discouraged by all the infighting and anxiety and heartbreak in the world right now. But there ARE great things still going on out there, if we just stop to appreciate them. So that’s what I want to do this month & every month – even just to keep my own focus on the good things God’s allowed me to experience. So here’s three great things I read, watched, listened to, and learned in August 2021!

three great things I read

three great things I watched

Mystery 101 with Kristoffer Polaha and Jill Wagner is currently my favorite Hallmark Mystery series (though I love several others too). And this installment was so good, y’all! THE END!! But then… THE END AGAIN!!! I’m not sure my heart can take the next movie.

It was lots of fun to be back in the Hannah Swensen / Murder She Baked world, and this new continuation of the series made me smile 🙂

three great things I listened to

Since tomorrow (Sept 2nd) is my anniversary, I thought I would take this space this month to share 3 songs that have special meaning to us because they relate to how our relationship started.

three great things I learned

-there are a TON of great new books coming out the last part of 2021

generous people do still exist in this world

-the new season of The Masked Singer premieres Sept 22!

  1. I don’t know how you do it. You stay busy and cover A lot of amazing book/communication/media content. You’re better and more informational than TV Guide by a long shot 🙂

  2. Pam K.

I also enjoyed Husband Auditions (so much wisdom amongst the humor) and the Mystery 101 and Hannah Swensen movies on Hallmark. I agree that it’s important to look for the good things every day. Even on our worst day, there’s probably something good to be thankful for.

  3. Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds

Three of my favorite reads in August were Love and the Silver Lining, The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery, and Yours is the Night.

  4. Jessica Baker

Eeep!! I can’t wait for Masked Singer!!! Of course I can’t wait for good books either, but I just love that show!

  5. Mystery 101 is my absolute FAVORITE mystery series EVER! Which is why I absolutely hate the fast-forward ending they put on it. Absolutely ruined an otherwise beautiful episode (and romantic moment at the end!). I don’t think I’m even going to watch the next movie for fear they’re going to ruin the best series in history. Maybe you can watch it for me and tell me if it’s okay to see. 🙂

  6. Megan

I love the Mystery 101 series too! The casting is terrific and the chemistry between the leads is wonderful.

  7. Nancy

I made a new friend that is British. He has showed me a new way to look at the world, some great German songs & some delicious English recipes.

  8. Paty Hinojosa Gómez

Three great recent reads are: Undercurrent of Secrets by Rachel Scott McDaniel, Between the Wild Branches by Connilyn Cossette, and Love and the Silver Lining, by Tammy L. Gray!

  9. John Smith

It sounds so nice with the fall candle burning and the honeycrisp apples calling out!

If I were lucky enough to win, is there some sort of stash database?

Seriously…that ending. I record them to watch with my mom, and I had to rewind it to make sure I saw it correctly. 😔😬 In August, I started having read-aloud time again with my nephew. I love experiencing the adventure of a good book with other people!! 🥰📚

  11. Brenda Murphree

These are not great things but sad things. I learned how heartbreaking it was to lose my husband. He passed away in August. Just 2 and half weeks ago.
I’m also learning how lonesome it is.
I have not been able to read because I can’t keep my mind on it right now. Please keep our family in your prayers.

What about you? What are three great things you read, watched, listened to, and/or learned in August 2021?

    1. Read – On The Cliffs of Foxglove Manor by Jaime Jo Wright! New to me author and a style I’m not used to reading but I loved it.
    2. Read – Love and the Silver Lining by Tammy L. Gray. Such a sweet continuation of the series.
    3. Something I learned was that this is going to be a challenging school year but it’s great to hear that we would (and crossed fingers still are) all in person! As a teacher it is much preferred to be in person!

I finished two devotional books in August, one by Charlie Daniels, Let’s All Make the Day Count. The other devotional book was by Karen Ehman and Ruth Schwink, Settle My Soul. I loved the new Hannah Swenson mystery on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. I did not watch any other television programs. I also did not listen to music in August. Thank you for allowing me to share. God bless you.
