A CHANGE IN TUNE
Series: The Strings of Sisterhood #1
Author: Ashley Rescot
Publisher: Rescot Creative
Release Date: September 15, 2021
Genre: Christian Contemporary Young Adult Romance
Violinist Victoria Pearson dreams of attending Johann Conservatory of Music in New York City for graduate school. As the oldest of five sisters, she hopes to escape her Midwestern college town and hectic family situation to fulfill her passion in life—music. But when she decides to participate in Belton University’s Concerto competition to bolster her chances of acceptance, Victoria finds herself competing against her sister Adrienne and lifelong cellist friend Jerry Chang. This sets in motion a rivalry that questions the roles of sisterhood, friendship, and maybe love.
Victoria wants to maintain the rigors required of a professional classical musician without losing her family and friends, not to mention her sanity, in the process. The demands of her large family might hinder her ability to achieve her dreams. What sacrifices will she make to reach her goals, and are they worth the cost?
A new, twenty-first-century generation of little women takes the stage in A Change in Tune.
Hi Ashley! Welcome to the blog!
Ashley: My Grandma has a pool, so I grew up swimming with my sisters and cousins. I also love going to the lake and waterskiing!
Carrie: sounds like fun!
Ashley: I’ve had both, but my dog was nicer. My kids are begging me to get them a puppy!
Carrie: “my dog was nicer” – LOL yep And you totally should get them a puppy 🙂
Ashley: As a musician, this one might come as a surprise, but audiobooks keep me more awake on road trips. My husband can’t understand how this is possible!
Carrie: interesting! Maybe because music relaxes you too much? I’m the exact opposite – audiobooks bore me lol
Ashley: I’d pick audiobook, but print comes in second. I like a break from the screen. Plus, the print books have soft covers.
Carrie: Ebooks are more convenient for me but I do love hugging those print books 🙂
Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?
Ashley: I’d have to see teleporting to see my family. We are best friends, so we like to talk and hang out whenever we get the chance! Unfortunately, I live far from them, so it’s a special treat when we get together! We still love to perform violin with each other!
Carrie: I love that! Some of my closest friends live way too far away (my family all lives close), so I would love that teleporting superpower too
Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?
Ashley: Jo March from Little Women. She came from a big family of sisters and inspired me to become a writer! My four sisters and I always thought we were the modern version of Little Women, but with one more sister. (The baby had to play the cat, haha.) Fun Fact: the 2 girl cover models on my book are my own sisters! Ironically, my youngest sister is actually the one posing as the oldest.
Carrie: “the baby had to play the cat…” LOL hilarious
Q: If I asked your characters to describe YOU as an author, what would they say?
Ashley: Talkative. I love getting to know people and chatting over a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, my biggest writing strength is probably my dialogue. It’s like having a conversation with my family and friends in my head, haha.
Carrie: that’s a great asset to have as a writer!
Q: Which of your main characters in A Change in Tune is most like you?
Ashley: Honestly, all of the 5 sisters in my book represent different parts of my personality, as well as different stages of my life. However, if I had to pick one, I’m probably the most like Adrienne, even though she starts out as the antagonist. She gets better, I promise!
Carrie: I love that the different stages of your life are represented by the sisters in the book!
Q: Were there any songs that inspired you as you wrote A Change in Tune?
Ashley: Yes, yes, yes!!! My book centers around music, and I have an entire playlist devoted to A Change in Tune. Most of them are famous violin concertos, as well as a couple of fiddle songs and several Christmas classics. You can’t beat Christmas music!
Carrie: i adore Christmas music!
Q: What do you most want readers to take away from A Change in Tune?
Ashley: I hope that readers deepen their love of music, and maybe discover a few new musical favorites! I also hope they enjoy the family dynamics and can see themselves in at least one of the characters.
Carrie: yay!
Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.
Ashley: I’m hoping to delve into book 2 of the series, where Adrienne takes the lead and goes to Paris with Gigi and Marie! I am also doing a music book club. To stay tuned, visit www.rescotcreative.com
Carrie: a music book club – how fun!
