Happy Wednesday! I’m so excited to welcome Jerusha Agen back to the blog today to chat about her new romantic suspense release, Hidden Danger!

HIDDEN DANGER: A Christian K-9 Suspense
SERIES:
Guardians Unleashed #1
GENRE: Inspirational Romantic Suspense

RELEASE DATE: November 8, 2021

The greatest threat to this K-9 team is the one they don’t see coming.

Cora Isaksson’s guilt has shadowed her life ever since drugs ensnared her brother and he disappeared. When Bradley suddenly returns, Cora and her narcotics detection K-9 are thrust into a battle against the drug cartel that wants him back.

DEA Special Agent Kent Thomson has his own personal reasons for bringing justice to the cartel. Cora and her drug-sniffing K-9 will only get in his way. Or are they assets that will enable him to right the wrongs of the past?

When the cartel targets Cora, she and Kent join forces with her teammates at the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency to end the cartel before it ends her. They’re prepared for danger, but when more lives than their own hang in the balance, can they trust God for the rescue that’s out of their reach?

Hidden Danger continues the thrilling story of the elite Phoenix K-9 Security and Protection Agency that began with prequel Rising Danger. (Each book can stand alone or be read as series installments.)

Mistaken about Mistakes

by Jerusha Agen, author of Hidden Danger

I make mistakes. A lot of them. Quite often. But so does everyone, right?

Problem is, I’m an extreme perfectionist. So each of those mistakes, whether small or big, collect and weigh on me heavily as I lament that I made them.

The worst is when I make a mistake that leads to someone I love getting hurt. I never intend for that to happen but, sometimes, it does anyway. And then I have to live with that.

Guilt and a sense of failure aren’t fun feelings to live with. Some people seem better at ignoring such feelings and letting things go, but I know I’m not the only one who struggles with wanting to do better, to eliminate my weaknesses so I don’t make harmful mistakes anymore.

The heroine of my new romantic suspense novel, Hidden Danger, can definitely relate to my problem. Sweet, positive, intelligent, and capable, Cora Isaksson seems nearly perfect to those who know her. But she knows she’s far from perfect.

Like me, she’s often haunted by guilt and a sense of failure over the mistakes she’s made. She blames herself for making mistakes that she’s convinced led to her brother’s drug addiction and involvement with a dangerous drug cartel.

Though Cora and I are very different in most respects, we share the need to find a better way to deal with our mistakes and our drive for perfectionism.

For my own life, I found the answer lies in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 where God, through the Apostle Paul, tells us about boasting in our weaknesses and the incongruity of being strong when we are weak.

How can this be? How can we boast about the weaknesses that lead us to fail or make harmful mistakes? And when can weakness actually be strength? That just doesn’t make sense in our world and our culture.

Or does it? If we look to Christ—the work He did on the cross and the work He does in His children—these truths begin to make sense. And they emerge as some of the most comforting realities of all.

Thanks to Christ and His redemption, we who belong to Him don’t have to dwell on our mistakes or worry that we will mess up something beyond repair.

God is in control, always, and He is the Redeemer Who will use everything—even our mistakes—for our good, the good of those who love Him.

Writing Cora’s story has been a journey for me, as well, as I uncovered the truth that frees me from guilt and fear of mistakes and imperfection. I hope that reading about Cora in Hidden Danger will bring you to that place of freedom, too!
